TKES Self-Assessment
Thank you for completing the required beginning of year TKES tasks. There are a large number (nearly half) of teachers currently with an In Progress status for their Self-assessment. Please use this information as a guide in finalizing the task as quickly as possible.
Action Required - CK CANVAS Page
Canvas is DCSD's official learning management system. All CK teachers are expected to maintain a website for their courses that are available to students and parents/guardians. Teachers are also expected to regularly visit the CK HS Leader Lab to complete required DCSD and CK training, sign-in for required faculty meetings, and receive advisory course materials.
We have created a new CK Staff Canvas site (the previous site had a significant risk of corruption). You will need to self-enroll to access our new site. Please do not share our new staff course link with students.
Please complete the District Mandates modules (link is at the bottom of the home page) by Tuesday, September 15.
At this time, your class shell should be completed and you should have already begun regularly utilizing Canvas as a course tool (assignments, resources, calendar).
Canvas Dates
- September 15: parent invitation sent; complete DCSD Mandates Course Module
- September 30: fully operational
Please reach out to your Academic Coach or Ms. Larkin with any questions.
Tardy Table & Hall Passes
Tardy Policy
We will not be holding tardy tables as we did last year. The administrative and campus security team will work with hallway duty teachers to "sweep" students into classroom once the tardy bell has rung. The receiving teacher is expected to mark students tardy. Teachers are expected to address the first three incidences as discussed during our preplanning meetings (see attached) and record interventions in the IC Teacher Contact Log. Students can be referred to administrators upon the fourth instance if prior interventions have been provided.Hall Passes
All student are required to have a hall pass when not in the classroom.
A hall pass only allows a student direct, expeditious travel to a specific location.
Students are NOT allowed to leave a classroom during the FIRST 15 minutes or the LAST 15 minutes of a class.
Students are not able to utilize the vending machines during instructional time.
Teacher Coverage
Cross Keys is fortunate to have a growing number of substitute teachers willing and able to support CK on a regular basis. With that said, there are times where we will need teachers to provide classroom coverage for other teachers during their planning time. Please note that classroom coverage during planning time is an expected teacher duty. Ms. G. Williams historically updates the coverage schedule every morning by 8:15am.
There are teachers who have volunteered to be asked first to cover classes any given week. Volunteer teachers can cover up to two days per week. Once those teachers have been utilized, any teacher can be called upon to cover. Except in extremely critical circumstances, you will not be expected to provided coverage during scheduled PLC days or if you have a IEP review meeting. We also understand the importance of planning time and generally will not expect a non-volunteering teacher to cover classes more than once per week.
Please closely follow the teacher coverage compensation guidelines communicated by Ms. Young. The deadlines are firm and set by the DCSD Finance department.
Please reach out to your department administrator with any questions.
Interpretation/Translation Services
Teachers are expected to communicate with parents using the family’s preferred language of communication. Teachers are expected to utilize Talking Points or Google Voice in initially contacting parents and/or for brief communications. Please request in your communications that the parent confirm receipt. Teachers should also provide a summary of communication and note outcome in the IC Teacher Contact Log.
If the parent does not respond to the initial communication, have the student discreetly contact their parents via their personal cell phone. Please reach out to Ms. Martinez if the phone number used to contact the parent is different from the one(s) listed in IC.
As needed, the school/district interpretation team is available to make phone calls (once initial contact is unsuccessful), participate in parent-teacher meetings, and translate documents. Use this link to request translation/interpretation services for all languages spoken at Cross Keys.
The grade-level administrator should be contacted if all attempts to contact parent are unsuccessful (so that they can investigate further or submit a social work referral) or if there is an urgent need to contact the parent.
