Lake Travis Community Library District to Open Second Location in Spicewood!
The Lake Travis Community Library District has purchased a 5,000 square foot building in western Travis County that will serve as a second library location and will be known as Lake Travis Community Library West. The building, which is located at 21209 State Hwy 71, Spicewood, Texas 78669, is near the intersection of State Hwy 71 and Bob Wire Road.
“We are eager to expand our services to the western part of our library district,” said Library Director Morgan McMillian. “Children and families will now have the opportunity to regularly visit a library close to home. Our hope is that the library’s enriching environment will encourage our youngest generation to become lifelong learners and readers.”
Planning to open within the year, the West location will provide essential library access for the ever-growing population of Bee Creek, Briarcliff, Rough Hollow, Spicewood, and Travis Settlement, as well as the Sweetwater and West Cypress Hills developments.
The need for a brick and mortar location has been proven due to the popularity and use of the library’s bookmobile in the area. In five years, the bookmobile has had over 60,000 visitors, checked out more than 95,000 items, and has opened over 1,600 new library accounts. The West location will provide access to materials including books, audiobooks, DVDs, Chromebooks, and mobile WiFi hotspots, complementing the Lake Travis Community Library Lakeway collection (1938 Lohmans Crossing, Austin, Texas 78734).
“We will provide story times, book clubs, educational lectures, classes, and, of course, materials to check out for all ages,” said McMillian. “And much like our bustling Lakeway location, we plan to offer a variety programs like our popular one-on-one tech coaching, vibrant live music, exercise classes such as yoga, social and interactive games such as chess and mah jongg, and so much more!”
In addition to public computers and WiFi internet access, the West location will offer a place to work and study, access to a notary public and proctor, and provide printing services. Patrons will also have access to personalized technology assistance, Interlibrary Loans, and expansive digital resources.
The library district is seeking community feedback through a short online survey to help guide and focus the services of the West location. The survey can be accessed online at bit.ly/LTCLsurvey or visit the Lakeway location or bookmobile to complete the survey in person.
“We are excited to receive input from local residents so our direction will be in sync with community needs,” said Library District Board President Sharon Rogers.
