Lowell Lantern
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL IS MONDAY, JUNE 3, 2019
Week of May 13--May 17, 2019
WE ARE LOWELL
Our theme at Lowell this year is "We are Lowell...CORE is our Superpower!"--Civility, Order, Respect, Excellence. We are encouraging students to embrace this challenge and achieve them.
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Lowell Families,
Our 3rd graders have completed their ILEARN Testing this week, and we are so proud of their hard work and effort! Our 4th graders are almost finished. They will have their last Science test next Monday, May 13. Keep going strong!!
All grade levels are taking the End of Year NWEA Assessment for Reading and Math. This will allow us to gauge their growth throughout the school year. In addition, our teachers are giving their students an additional Reading Assessment in order to verify their end of year reading level. We appreciate all of the effort that our students are putting forth with these end of year assessments. They are so very important!
We have many upcoming field trips across all grade levels. Please make sure to check with your child’s teacher regarding dates and times for field trips. In addition, please remember to complete a required background check if you are planning on chaperoning on your child’s trip. In order to chaperone, you MUST complete a background check. Those forms are available at the front office. If you are accompanying your child on a field trip, we ask that you NOT bring younger siblings or children on the field trip. As a chaperone, you are agreeing to be responsible for supervising a small group of children. This proves difficult to do with younger siblings as they require your attention. We appreciate your adherence to this policy. As always, thank you for volunteering.
May is a busy month with a lot of activities. Below are some important upcoming dates.
Wednesday, May 22 -- 4th Grade Appreciation Night at 7:00pm in the gym
Friday, May 24 -- 4th Grade Party at Post Road Christian Church -- during the school day
Monday, May 27 -- Memorial Day -- No School
Friday, May 31 -- CORE Celebration
Monday, June 3 -- Field Day
Monday, June 3 -- LAST DAY OF SCHOOL -- EARLY DISMISSAL AT 2:30pm
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Griffin
Attention 4th Grade Parents
ILEARN TESTING CONTINUES WEDNESDAY APRIL 24 -- MAY 17 GRADES 3 & 4
Students in grades 3 & 4 will begin taking the ILEARN Assessment on Monday, April 22. Students will test for approximately one hour/day over the course of 9 -12 school days. Our students have been working so hard to prepare and WE BELIEVE IN THEM! Our student know that one test does not define them! We simply want students to do their personal best every day! That is what matters the most! Thank you for supporting your children and encouraging them to do their best! Please make sure students are well rested over the course of testing and arrive at school on time every day! Attendance is always important but even more so during this testing window! We appreciate you scheduling appointments around testing so students will be at school every day! Thank you!
Good attendance = Good Academic Success
Below are year-to-date attendance percentages for each grade level. Our attendance goal is 97%. Our 4th quarter of learning is invaluable, and it is important for students to be at school every day! Missed days of instruction can cause gaps in student learning. Thank you for supporting your children by making sure they are at school and on time every day!

Read and Rise at The Early Childhood Center
Read and Rise at The Early Childhood Center
The Indianapolis Urban League is teaming up with The Warren Early Childhood Center to offer a program, Read and Rise, to our parent community. The foundation of the program is aimed at promoting reading and literacy development in the home.
ECC will host three family literacy workshops as outlined below:
Thursday, May 23; 6:00-7:15 p.m.- Focus on 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade, up to age 9
The Indianapolis Urban League will teach the workshops, provide dinner, and provide how-to guides for parents and reading materials for children. ECC will provide child care for families whom would otherwise not be able to attend. We hope many of our Warren parents will be able to attend this great program!
