Important Opportunity for Students - The Boston ECG Project
The ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT is excited to bring to Bellingham the BOSTON ECG PROJECT, an initiative that is highlighted in this month's edition (page 25) of the Bellingham Bulletin.
Testing (by reservation) is scheduled for Saturday, October, 20 between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm and is limited to 150 participates. If interest exceeds 150 an attempt will be made to add staff, but since there are no guarantees - REGISTER NOW!
The target audience is youth age 12 - 25 and you need not be a student-athlete to be tested.
Thanks to a generous donation from the town's new trash removal company - HARVEY INDUSTRIES, testing is FREE!
Here are some statistics Boston ECG Project has shared with us:
• Sudden Cardiac Death is the #1 medical killer of young athletes
• Sudden Cardiac Death is the #2 medical cause of death among youth under age 25
• One student athlete dies every 3 days – it's the leading cause of death on school campuses
• 1 out of 200 adolescents will harbor a potential lethal undiagnosed cardiac condition.
Boston ECG Project Charitable Organization is a 501c3 non profit organization whose purpose is to save the lives of children and adolescents by preventing sudden cardiac death, and identifying underlying cardiac abnormalities and conditions, which are often missed by the usual history and physical examination.
This will be done with a screening electrocardiogram (ECG). The organization's goal is to develop an affordable model, and initiate a study, that ultimately may justify wide spread ECG screening for all of our youth.
We are thrilled that Bellingham High School will take part in what we believe will be a seminal study.
