There have been lots of great events going on in the Fine Arts department as we prepare to wrap up the year. Below are some of the highlights we know you will enjoy. Take a look and be sure to let your children and students know you are proud of the things they have accomplished this year! We hope you all have a great summer holiday.
Choir Students by Day, Rockers by Night
NNHS choir students perform the song "I Want to Know What Love Is" with the band Foreigner on Friday, Apr. 27 at Showplace Theatre in Norman. Foreigner invites a school group from every stop on their tour to perform with them. Watch their performance below!

Showcase of Talent
NPS Fine Arts presents the annual All-City Art Show Apr. 2-12. The displays showcased a variety of art mediums from students elementary through high school.
I'm With the Band
Band teachers visit elementary school students to introduce and recruit them to band. Teachers visited elementary school students throughout the month of March. Watch a clip of the performance teachers gave to the students below.

Presenting the Facts
Elementary music teacher Emily Richardson prepares for her presentation at The Organization of American Kodaly Educators conference. OAKE hosted its annual National conference in Oklahoma this year. NPS Fine Arts Director Brad Benson was recognized during the conference and received the "Outstanding Administrator" award.
Creative Minds
Award-winning writer Dr. Nathan Brown presents his creative writing program to students and adults at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. Now in it's tenth year, the Creative Writing Program brings selected sixth grade students from Norman's four middle schools to OU campus for one-day workshops with Dr. Brown. The workshop included students exploring galleries and writing in response to the art they viewed. At the end, each student chose their favorite piece of their writing for publication.
Superior Performance
IMS orchestra students pose with their school mascot, "Catie Cougar" after competing at OSSAA orchestra contest in April. The groups took home superior ratings as well as outstanding achievements awards under the direction of Sarah Chan.
"He that Knows Better How to Tame A Shrew..."
NNHS students present Shakespeare's classic play, "The Taming of the Shrew." The show ran from Thursday, Apr. 26 through Saturday, the 28th at the Nancy O'Brian Center for Performing Arts.

Music for All
Band and orchestra students perform at the 58th annual All-City concert. Band students grades 6-12 performed on Mar. 26 and orchestra students grades 5-12 performed on Mar. 27.
Pit Stop
NNHS band students take a trip to Eskimo Joe's in Stillwater before solo and ensemble contest at OSU on Wednesday, Apr. 18.
For the Record(er)
Roosevelt elementary presents a recorder concert on Thursday, Mar. 29. The group was under the direction of music teacher Meredith Ziegler.

Display of Excellence
NHS and NNHS art students attend Joy Hofmeister's State Superintendent Awards for Excellence event at the Scottish Rite Temple in Guthrie on Tuesday, Apr. 24. The awards are given to high school juniors and seniors who have achieved excellence in the arts. Eight NPS students received an award.
Celebrating Teachers
Members of NHS Orchestra perform "Orange Blossom Special" at the Teachers Award Banquet on Thursday, Apr. 19. LMS vocal teacher Christine Hrubik was one of the six finalists up for the award.

CONGRATS!
Congrats to over 60 students and groups who received a Fine Arts award or recognition at the state or national level this Spring. Students will be honored for their efforts on May 21 at the Board of Education meeting.
