News from the Jamestown Library

September 2013

Welcome and Welcome Back!

Welcome back to our Jamestown families and students and a big welcome to our new members of the Jamestown community! We are gearing up for another exciting year in the Library. For detailed information about our library and our resources, visit our website at

We begin in September by reviewing expectations and procedures in the Library, creating our own library cards (grades K-2), learning how to check our library accounts online (grades 3-5), getting to know library resources, and best of all, talking about all of the great books we've discovered over the summer!

Each month I will also highlight resources provided by the Arlington County Public Libraries - they are truly our partners in passionate reading! The ACPL Paws-to-Read program is an opportunity for children to practice reading in a less stress-ful environment by reading to patient, nonjudgemental...dogs. Register in advance for a 15 minute time slot at the Cherrydale Branch Library (3rd Saturday of each month from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.) Call 703-228-6330 or go to for more information

Questions to ask your child(ren) about their time in the Library...

What is your librarian's name?

When do you bring your library books back to the Library?

Can you show me how to log on to your library account? (Grades 3-5)

The Jamestown Elementary School Library is open Monday through Friday from 8:45 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Please note that we are happily busy teaching library and research skills, advising readers, and checking out books to students. Emails and phone calls may not be returned the same day. Have a great September and keep reading!
