Swansboro High School
March 31, 2019
Good Afternoon Pirate Families,
March was a great month on the books at Swansboro High School! This past week included golf, baseball, softball and soccer at Jacksonville, lacrosse at Havelock, a home track meet, 2 tennis matches and on Friday night we also hosted soccer, baseball and softball at home. We are still awaiting final results for the robotics competition at UNC Pembroke but at last check we were in the top 5!
Congratulations to Parker Thompson, Caleb Vannoy and Joshua Thompson for being recognized as outstanding musicians for the UNCW Jazz Festival. Parker was one of two students to be awarded a scholarship for the UNCW Summer Jazz Workshop!
Congratulations to our track athletes for their outstanding performance at UNCW on Saturday. Jamel Abalos broke a 38 year old record and won in the shot put with a distance of 53 feet and 3 inches. Our girls relay qualified for the regionals with a time of 1:50.
Counselors have met with students to pick their course selections for the 19-20 school year. Please ask your students to show you the graduation course and credit checklist to see their completion progress. Next year, there will be NO SCHEDULE CHANGES, so please make changes before April 15th. If you have any questions/concerns, contact your student’s counselor.
The irrigation system on our football field needs to be replaced at a cost of 20k. We are seeking 20 business sponsors to make a donation of $1,000 each. Donors will receive a year pass to all home athletic events and their name will be listed on a plaque on the field house. Please contact us at Helen.Gross@onslow.k12.nc.us if you are willing to help.
We only have 14 days left until spring break! Let's stay strong and focused in the classroom, in the community and on the athletic fields! Thursday is Media Specialist Day! Be sure to say thank you to Mrs. Crawford and Ms. Burton for their support. This week will also include golf at Morehead City and lacrosse at New Bern on Monday, soccer, baseball and softball at White Oak and tennis against Havelock on Tuesday, softball against South Lenoir, baseball at Hoggard and track against Northside and White Oak on Wednesday, tennis against Northside on Thursday and lacrosse at home against Croatan, soccer, baseball and softball at Northside on Friday.
Seniors will participate in an assembly on Friday with Coastal Carolina Community College. Parents are welcomed to join us for the assembly at 10:10 am. Students will learn about continuing education opportunities such as EMT, home health care or power line technician certifications. These are excellent certification programs for students as they enter either the full time or part time workforce as graduates.
