G/T News & Celebrations

Stagecoach Elementary

Week of November 9th - 13th

Hot Springs National Park Field Experience

Second graders recently descended on Hot Springs National Park ready to experience one of our nation's treasures. Students toured the Fordyce Bathhouse then walked down the Grande Promenade. They received a stamp in their very own National Park Passport and were also excited to receive a Jr. Ranger book and badge.

Biography Bottles

Every third and fourth grade student has completed their project that goes along with their ISP (Independent Study Plan). All biography bottles of the person that they are studying were turned in and look absolutely amazing! Thank you for your help and support at home!

Veteran's Day

Thank you to those who had served or are currently serving our country. Stagecoach Elementary students, faculty, and staff would like to show our appreciation to the Veterans and their service to our country tomorrow morning from 7:30-8:00 by honoring all Veterans with a special breakfast in the Stagecoach gym. We will culminate the activities with a school wide pledge and the National Anthem at the flagpole in front of the school.

Christmas for Kids - Toy Drive

Stagecoach G/T students are the sponsors of the toy collection here at Stagecoach Elementary. I hope that my students will learn that we can help families and children in the surrounding areas (Cabot, Austin, and Ward) with all of the donations collected going to the "Cabot Christmas Alliance." The drive will begin next Monday, November 16th and end on Friday, December 11th. You and your child can help us by bringing a new toy, board game, sports ball, a pair of gloves, hair or nail accessories, baby items, etc. The items collected will be distributed to various age groups from babies up to teenagers. We want to help as much as we can. Your help is really appreciated!

What we are learning/doing:

ISP:

2nd Grade: Discovering Our National Parks: Students are completing their research on their individually chosen national park.

3rd & 4th Grade: Students should be taking simple notes 2-3 words (not plagiarizing). They only have 2 more weeks in class to research before Christmas because it will take them 2 weeks to get their clues fixed and ready for "Night of the Notables." I have advised students that if they still need a lot of information, then they need to come for free flow or work on it at home. The goal was for everyone to be finished with researching by Christmas break.

Math:

2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grade: Each student is working and progressing in Khan Academy. Students can see their progress and work at their own pace. I am right there to teach different strategies to them if they still don't understand after watching the video, or if I see students struggling on a skill, I will pull them over to the side and do a small lesson on the skill. Students are to work their way through 3 or more activities each math session.

Advisory:

2nd Grade: Social-emotional lesson- When words or actions are said and done, a person can apologize but can't erase/make the scars go away because they are there forever.

3rd Grade: Review The Dog Poop Initiative (it is a kick-off to our 'Go Green' unit - reduce, reuse, recycle). Work on and get the Christmas for Kids posters ready to be hung.

4th Grade: Learn about drones and practice Carol of the Bells that they will sing with the Harding University Choir (for our trip on Thursday!). We will go over everything that we will be doing on the field experience Thursday. Students will need to dress in layers for the field experience because it will be kind of cool. A Remind 101 will be sent out Wednesday night as well as a reminder letter on Wednesday.
