Principal Weekly Update
September 27-October 1
Note from Ms. Robinson
Dear Welchester Community,
ALL students arriving and leaving school should be safely secured in a seatbelt or car seat/booster. Accidents can happen anywhere- even the parking lot. It is also against the law to not have your child secured while in a vehicle.
Please use caution entering & exiting the parking lot. There is a stop sign exiting the lot onto 10th. A stop sign signals you to make a complete stop, unless a staff member is waving you through to get traffic going. Give yourself more time if necessary.
It’s official – October Count Day this year is Friday, October 1. The most important action you can take to support school funding is to make sure your student attends school on that day. Much of public education funding from the State of Colorado is based on student count so we encourage you to be sure your child engages in school that day.
The “count window” the state observes is from Friday, September 24 through Friday, October 8 but the most important student count day is Friday, October 1. Please help us ensure an accurate count by having your student participate in learning that day. We understand that Thursday, October 7 and Friday, October 8 are non-student contact days, so we encourage you to have your student in attendance on the other days during the count window.
If your child will be absent on Friday, October 1 due to illness, call our attendance line, 303-982-7449 to report the absence. Attendance during the “count window” will help counteract an absence on Friday, October 1.
Thank you for your support of Welchester Elementary school. Every child counts!

Reflection Sheets
Students are always first given a verbal prompt to adjust to appropriate behavior. If behavior continues, they are asked to get a Think Sheet. Once the student has take n some time and completed the Think Sheet, the teacher processes incident and supports student in meeting expectations. We also believe that when students correct their behavior, they always get a fresh start. When this happens, the teacher will tear up the Think Sheet and it won't go home.
If a Think Sheet comes home with your child; as a parent, please ask your child to talk through the 4 questions and ask if they were able to repair or change their behavior and if not, ask, "How can I help you?"
Here is an example of the primary version with pictures. Our older students do not have all the pictures.
Can you help with staff meals during conferences?
You can drop off food/drink anytime at end of school day.

We appreciate your patience and compliance as we continue to navigate our world with COVID-19 and public health orders. We understand how frustrating it can be when COVID symptoms also look like seasonal allergies or typical child illness. I am including some information which I hope will help you in your decision making (at home screening tool) about sending your child(ren) to school and how to be proactive so our students can be in school and ready to learn.
Voluntary testing is available starting Monday, September 13th and is available for students through Mobile Health at several convenient locations. The testing is available for staff and students who are NOT symptomatic.

Consent:
Any student or staff member can take advantage of the testing program at our district locations. To test students and staff, the individual seeking a test will need to complete a site-specific consent form (parent/guardian consent required for students under 18). We ask families and staff to complete the consent form prior to arriving at testing sites in an attempt to prevent delays in the on-site testing process. Consent forms only need to be completed once per person. Please visit our district webpage to see the three easy steps to get set up for testing. Find the specific link for your school’s online consent form under Step 2. There are English and Spanish versions of the online consent form.
Only students participating in Jeffco athletics and activities who are not vaccinated and any staff person in any role that is not vaccinated will need to be tested weekly and provide a negative test result in order to continue participating in their sport or activity, or for staff to continue to serve in their role. Testing is being made available and optional for elementary and middle school students and vaccinated staff.
For students that are symptomatic, please visit any of these locations for FREE COVID testing. Our closest location is the Jeffco Fairgrounds 15200 W. 6th Ave. Frontage Rd., & Golden, CO 80401 Enter from McIntyre St.
