Giving 'em Cookies
Why a cookie you ask? The idea of a cookie being equated to praise or something positive is consistent with the trauma invested practice work that District 200 is doing with Kristin Souers. Mrs. Souers is a licensed mental health counselor whose books about fostering resilient learners and how educators can utilize trauma-invested practices in their work with children have created a buzz around the country. A team of Olson staff members started their work with Mrs. Souers virtually last year and the entire district had the privilege of hearing her speak in person to kick off the 2021-2022 school year. Many of the practices you will see throughout the district are routed in the trauma-invested work we are ALL doing with Mrs. Souers.
Please be sure to ask your child about "cookies" and how to earn them!
10 Things the Brain Needs
Meet Ms. Jurca, Olson's additional social worker
Welcome back to school for the 2021-2022 school year! How exciting it has been to see all your and your children’s smiling faces these past two week!
I wanted to take a minute and introduce myself to you all! My name is Kristen Jurca and I will be working at Olson Elementary School as well as Dean Street Elementary School throughout this school year. The district has taken the initiative to support not only our students, but also our families during this pandemic and transition back to school to help ensure needs are being met. Therefore, this year I will be working closely to partner with families to help support in a variety of ways, including offering evening hours to best be able to meet families’ needs (more information to come!!).
A little about myself:
I am so excited to be a new member of the Woodstock family! I previously worked at Valley View School District for 5 years partnering with families and students throughout the school year to help grow and develop their social and emotional functioning. In my free time I enjoy reading, being outside, spending time with family and friends, and spoiling my nieces and nephews.
I look forward to partnering with you all to continue to strengthen our school-home connections throughout the school year.
Welcome Back!!
Ms. Jurca

Reminder about COVID-19 Certification Form
This year D200 no longer asks parents to complete a screening form each day prior to school. Rather, parents will be required to complete a screening certification form once each semester. The form asks parents to certify that they will assess their student daily for symptoms of Covid-19. We are asking that one form be filled out for each child attending District 200.
To complete this form, you will need to log into your PowerSchool Parent Portal.
