Seniors Win Trips, Fabulous Prizes in Texas Instruments #SpreadMathLove Contest
CHS Computer Science teacher Sarah Putterman and the CHS Marching Band pulled a fast one on senior drumline members Jeffery Gaskin and Nate Norward (above, left to right) before practice at the football field on Thursday evening. Sending the boys back to the high school to retrieve an item she’d “forgotten,” Putterman arranged for mylar balloons spelling “M-A-T-H” and the marching band to shout “surprise” when the boys returned to inform them they’d been selected from more than 1,000 entries as winners in the Texas Instruments Education Division’s nationwide Spread the Math Love contest honoring “Math Heroes.” As part of their prize, the boys each received a TI-Innovator Rover, TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator and trip to Dallas, Texas, with a family member to attend and present at the Teachers Teaching with Technology International Conference in March. Their presentation will focus on how teachers can utilize the rover in their classrooms. Read more>

Let’s Hear It for Rebecca Moser
A four-year member of the Cheltenham Unified Cheer squad, Rebecca Moser took the field to root on the Temple Owls football squad as it faced off against the Maryland Terrapins at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, Sept. 14. Moser is the first autistic cheerleader to perform for Audible for Autism, a nonprofit raising awareness and providing community support to children and families on the autism spectrum. With her parents, friends and CHS cheer coach Arielle Brown Moser watching and encouraging her, Moser cheered with the Temple University cheerleaders during halftime and the third quarter.

PBL11 meets Curtis Arboretum
During the first weeks of school, the junior Project Based Learning cohort (PBL11) visited historic Curtis Arboretum on numerous occasions to make a personal connection with the picturesque 47-acre public space. After learning a collection of environmental concepts in science, the students were tasked with taking photographs to represent the concepts. Each student created a portfolio of pictures and selected their best five to show at their exhibition at Curtis Arboretum on Thursday, Sept. 12. This project represents the first step in a new collaboration between PBL11 and Cheltenham Township, Friends of Curtis Arboretum (FoCA) and Tookany-Tacony Frankford Watershed Partnership (TTF). In their next project cycle, students will work with these partners to restore and enhance the arboretum, a uniquely Cheltenham community resource. Read more>
