Technology Tips and Updates
How to Create an Online Sorting Activity Using Google Sheets (from Free Tech for Teachers)
Flippity is a great source of templates for making online games, flashcards, and quizzes. Recently, Flippity added a new template that makes it easy to create an online sorting activity based on information you provide in a Google Sheet. Flippity's newest template is called Manipulatives. The template lets you create an online activity in which students sort items into categories. You can have students sort items into columns, grids, Venn diagrams, and even into regions of a map. In this video you can see a demonstration how to use Flippity Manipulatives to create an online sorting activity. As is demonstrated in the video above, you can use just about any image as the background in your sorting activities. To that end, I can see the template being useful for creating activities in which students have to match terms to parts of a diagram. For example, you might use a plant cell as the background then have students drag the names of the corresponding parts into their correct places on the diagram.
Windows 7
Last week, Microsoft ended support for Windows 7. The IT department has been working on a plan to upgrade everybody to Windows 10 by the end of summer. Scammers are using this situation to send emails out to people letting them know that they can “help” keep Windows 7 updates going or upgrade them to the latest version of Windows. Please be aware that these emails are spam and to not click any links in them. Any official Windows 7 update/upgrade communication will come directly from the IT department.
Winter Play Preview
You are invited to a preview performance of CoSA Presents: As You Like It, written by William Shakespeare and directed by THE KIM STRASSBURGER, on Friday, January 31 during Period 6 at 2PM in the Theatre.
William Shakespeare's wit and romance play out against the disputes of divided pairs of brothers, mistaken identity, misdirected love and lost inheritance; all set in the pastoral setting of the forest of Arden.
