A Message from Dr. Mitzner
Just a reminder that we do not celebrate Halloween at Tays Junior High. Please save your costumes for after school and double check how much candy they are packing in pockets, lunchboxes and backpacks on Friday!
Have a great evening!
Regards,
Dr. Kris Mitzner

SAVE THE DATE! - TAYS & TEXANS CARE! JOIN US FOR A COMMUNITY SERVICE NIGHT. TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2019, DOORS OPEN @ 5:45 PM
We have amazing news regarding our upcoming volunteer community event on November 12, 2019, 5:45 p.m. Mystery guests from the Texans will be joining us in our efforts, not only to speak, but also to participate alongside the students in our volunteer activities!
Our event, Tays & Texans Care, is part of a nationwide effort, the Huddle for 100, which encourages volunteers of all age groups to track their volunteer minutes towards a national goal 100 million minutes.
We are expecting high attendance at this event, so we are requesting families pre-register their intent to participate.
Please RSVP for this event here: Tays and Texans Care Sign Up
Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. (Don’t be late as the Texans may appear any time after opening!)
Please wear your Tays or Texans gear! The event will kick-off with a short and inspiring speech by Regina Alexander of Feed the Hunger & Compassion Katy, after which students, siblings, and families will be invited to participate in hands-on activities for four wonderful charities.
You and your family will be able to make care kits for our military through Operation Gratitude, shape seed balls for Katy Prairie Conservancy, craft dog toys for Citizens for Animal Protection, or assemble activity books for sick children through DoSomething.org. Plus, we will be providing information on many other charities that provide opportunities for entire families to make a difference in the Katy area.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about the volunteering opportunities available in Katy, as well as to do something concrete to make a difference today.
Remember to pre-register to ensure quick entry into the event. (We will be checking off names at the door to ensure everyone’s minutes are counted towards the Huddle for 100 goal.)

FROM THE LIBRARY
As part of the library’s Titans Read Program, Tays students and staff are participating in the fall reading challenge that began on October 7th. Mr. Grelle, our 6th grade AP, has agreed to allow us to use his height to motivate all Titans to read more this year!
A life size poster of Mr. Grelle is posted outside the library with a “height chart.” Color coded (by grade level) labels will be placed on the height chart to represent the books we have read.
Through December 6th, students will scan the appropriate QR in the library or in English teachers’ classrooms each time they finish a book. The English class that reads and submits the most books per grade level will enjoy a treat at lunch. Let’s see how many times we can read Mr. Grelle’s height!
