## Reader's Workshop

I will be finishing up running records this week so each student will know their current reading level. I will be sending some information home for you to see once I have finished each student. We will also begin our unit this week on Historical Fiction Book Clubs. Students will be in groups of four and they will be given a time period to study. Then, they will read multiple chapter books that are set during their given time period. The students have been waiting for this unit for a long time!

## Science News

Before break we finished up our unit on plants. This week, we are beginning our animal unit. We will be learning all about different groups of animals such as amphibians, reptiles, mammals, fish, and birds. We will begin a research project this week as well where students will choose an animal from each category to research and present to the class.

## Writer's Workshop

We will use our writer's workshop time this week to research different time periods for our reader's workshop unit. The students will become experts on their time period through reading articles, watching video clips, and reading picture books. On Tuesday, ask your child to tell you a little bit about the time period they are studying!

## Walkathon

All I can say is...WOW! We had so much fun on Friday walking around Tanglewood to support the South High Marathon Dance. I am blown away by the fundraising efforts and am so proud to be a teacher at Tanglewood. Go Bulldogs!
