What's New in Room 182

Mrs. Peters' 3rd Grade * May 6, 2016

MCA: Mission completed

3rd Grade MCAs are in the books! I am so proud of how your students stayed focused on their tests AND on all of the learning we were doing the remainder of the week. Their thinking and conversation skills continue to wow me...

Mrs. Peters

Welcome back, Mrs. Wichterman!

We were both surprised and super excited to see Will's mom this morning, back to read a few more chapters of Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. As a few students wrote in their Family Journals today, we were ALL laughing out loud at Peter's crazy but totally believable tales!

And only THREE MORE SLOTS for you (or someone special in your 3rd grader's life) to be a Mystery Reader!! You can find more information and a sign-up page here. This is truly one of our favorite moments of each week, so PLEASE consider making time to spend just a small part of your Friday with us!!

Focus on the Curriculum

ELA

  • Weekly suffix: -ian, -or (a person who)

Please make sure your student is completing their Sort & Glue Matching Activity in their Learning Log on Monday night, so that they have plenty of time to learn their new words.

Also, they must complete five Spelling City activities at home (via web or free app) during the week to practice. Tuesday night when they bring home their iPads is a great time for this!

  • Main Idea / Nonfiction

We will continue our work with nonfiction this week, adding in the genre of biographies. The essential question guiding our learning is: "Is everything in nonfiction factual?" You would be amazed at how their thinking is developing around this question!

Math

  • Chapter 9: Measurement
We're getting back into our regular math routine and wrapping up this chapter on measurement. I will be sure to send out the "Home Connection" (with a few areas emphasized) on Monday.

Weekly Review #23 is due Friday.
