CREATIVITY & INNOVATION
Trying new approaches to get things done equals innovation & invention
When designing a lesson with creativity and innovation remember there are many strategies that you already use that just need a digital tool where students are creating their own idea. What is Creativity & Innovation?
Use a wide range of idea creation techniques (such as brainstorming).
Create new and worthwhile ideas (both incremental and radical concepts).
Elaborate, refine, analyze and evaluate their own ideas in order to improve and maximize creative efforts.
Creativity is closely intertwined with some of the other skills previously identified. Innovation today has a social component and requires adaptability, leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. Increasingly, today the capacity to innovate is linked to the ability to connect with others and with a facility for communication and collaboration.
Examples:
Civil War Unit: Students tell the story of slavery through different perspectives. They select a persona, write a script, record the speech through audio and/or video. Some students create paper dolls through crafting scraps and add the video of their speech (using green screen). Others may choose to present the speech through other tools.
Resources Used: Aurasma App available on tablets and phones, www.voki.com, Google Slides, Garageband, iMovie, PhotoBooth
Career PBL, Edutainment: Students utilitzed the engineering design process to research, design, and create a toy or web-based game/app that teaches age appropriate skills or factual information to an individual or small group of young children by providing age-appropriate play. Resources Used: crafts and materials from MakerSpace cabinet in the CAVE to make the product, iMovie/Photobooth for commercial
