MacTown Miracles Food Drive - McKinney ISD - Donations Collected December 7-11

Bennett is excited to partner once again this year with our three fabulous McKinney High Schools to support MacTown Miracles! The student council members at each high school will be working together to collect food for holiday meals for families in our community.

They have asked Bennett to collect cans of corn and sturdy paper plates. Other holiday items such as boxed stuffing mix and boxed mashed potatoes are welcome as well, but the corn and the heavy paper plates are our focus!

Please bring items to support this project and put them in the boxes in the Bennett main hallway all next week - December 7-11.

Learning Commons Update with Angie Stallbaumer

Big picture

Dear Parents,

Computer Science week will be celebrated around the world, December 7-13, 2020, by tens of millions of students, in 180+ countries through a one-hour introduction to computer science and computer programming.

Bennett students will be participating, as in the past, in coding activities throughout Computer Science Week.

Bennett’s Hour of Code week will include online coding apps (K-1 only) and computer coding websites and games. These coding games and educational sites are great for critical thinking, problem solving, and overall brain boosting. Your students may come home wanting to code using online games and programs. Students who would like a Code.org account (only needed if they wish to save their progress) may request one with parent permission. Click here to grant permission for your child to have a Code.org account created. Kinder-3rd grade students have Kodable accounts and 3rd-5th students will be able to join a CS First Coding course. Classroom teachers will communicate login information and any class codes needed for these programs via Seesaw (K-2nd) or Canvas (3rd-5th).

Throughout the week, all F2F and Virtual Learners will have an opportunity to explore and engage in coding games and programs, for at least one hour. Classroom teachers will determine when and how students participate. Teachers will communicate resources and activities via Seesaw (K-2nd) and Canvas (3rd-5th).

Due to COVID, the annual Parent Hour of Code has been canceled. However, I have put together some slides to provide basic information about coding and included many of resources available to students for this year’s Hour of Code. Use this link to access the presentation.

Please email me at astallbaumer@mckinneyisd.net if you have questions or would like more information.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Stallbaumer
