Mariner Weekly

February 1, 2021

Congratulations!

Congratulations to our February Staff Member of the Month, Mrs. Kate McGuckin! Known throughout our building as "Caf," she has been teaching in the Toms River School System for 27 years. Her first fourteen were at Intermediate East and she's been a proud Mariner since 2008. Caf is obsessed with the 1980's and admits she never cooks. In her spare time, she enjoys her family, traveling, going to restaurants, her big dog, making people laugh, and wearing pearls and dresses to heavy metal concerts. Since she wrote this herself, I will add that she loves her students and colleagues.

Congratulations to our February Students of the Month, Morgan Keller and Gavin Redgrave!

Morgan has been a four year varsity starter on our field hockey team. Over the last two seasons she has served as one of the team captains and has been twice named to the All Division Team. Morgan represents our school as a Shore Conference Student Ambassador and has been inducted into National Honor Society. She is a member of Roots & Shoots, TEAM, and Captain's Crew. Outside of school, she volunteers at her church and performs in the Bell Choir. Academically, Morgan has achieved Academic Letters and High Honor Roll each year of her high school career. She will be continuing her academic and field hockey career at Farleigh Dickinson University as a Nursing major.

Gavin is a member of our Varsity Football and Track programs. He is involved as a youth instructor with his church and volunteers at the Fulfill Food Bank every Friday. In his spare time, Gavin coaches youth flag football each fall and spring. He is an Australian Citizen and lived there for a year when he was 12. This past summer Gavin represented our school as a Boys State Delegate. Academically, he is an excellent student achieving High Honor every marking period throughout high school. Gavin is currently considering Penn State, The University of Delaware, New Jersey Institute of Technology, or Rowan University as a Mechanical Engineering major.

YMCA COVID Resources

The YMCA is excited to release new COVID Resources for parents and school professionals. They created these resources in response to conversations with multiple school districts expressing concerns for student wellness and obstacles for virtual learning including limited access for assessing students. These resources can be used to help identify warning signs and symptoms in children and adolescents and link them to counseling.
