Graduation Ceremony Update - Saturday, June 6th

On Thursday, Governor Brown announced new guidelines for social distancing. Among them, large gatherings will be prohibited through September. However, local gatherings will be allowed with a limited number of people as long as social distancing requirements are met.

In speaking with students and parents, there is an overall desire to have a personal graduation ceremony - not one that is virtual. I am pleased to announce that Estacada High School will hold its graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 6th at Buzz Randall Stadium, as originally scheduled. We will need students and families to fully cooperate with the guidelines in order to make this a successful event where each student can be honored.

Students will enter the stadium two at a time and make their way toward the stage. They will be permitted to have six family members or friends enter the stadium at the same time. The students' names will be called and they will walk across the stage to receive their diploma one at a time. When both students have received their diplomas, they will walk out with their families and the next two students will enter.

  • Students will be scheduled in 6-minute time slots starting at noon.
  • The entire ceremony should take approximately 5 hours to complete.
  • The 6 family members must wear face coverings to enter the stadium and must remain 6 feet apart.
  • The event will be streamed live on the district's Facebook page.
  • The ceremony will begin with messages from the principal, followed by the student body president, the class salutatorian, and finally the valedictorian.

This week we will begin to ask students who they would like their walking partner to be as well as begin to schedule their specific time to enter the stadium. Students should wear their cap and gown for this ceremony This year students will be allowed to decorate the boards of their graduation caps if they like. Decorations must be school appropriate.

In lieu of the traditional senior breakfast, the EHS Boosters Club will be passing out bags of goodies to our graduates immediately upon coming out of the stadium during the graduation ceremony.

We are working on a couple of other events following the graduation ceremony so we can properly honor the Class of 2020 but still need to wait for the appropriate permits. More news to come.

Senior Recognition "Assembly"

Traditionally, EHS has had its senior recognition assembly the Friday prior to Saturday's graduation ceremony. This year will be no exception.

We are going to hold a virtual Senior Recognition Assembly and would like to announce your senior's future plans. Please encourage your student to email by 5/15 at noon Mr. Christiansen, Mrs. Babikoff, or Ms. Treanor the following:

1) Most Immediate Future Plans including work, college, trade school, church service, etc.

2) Scholarships, Internships, or Awards that relate to your Immediate Future Plans

3) Other relevant information

Cindy Babikoff: After graduation, I plan to attend Boise State University. I have received the Franklin scholarship, the BSU Presidents Scholarship, and the Local Groovemeister scholarship.

Heather Treanor: After graduation, I have been accepted to an apprenticeship with Local Union UFO as a brick mason's apprentice. They awarded me an award that will pay for all of my tools.

Steven Christiansen: After graduation, I plan to work at the US Post Office, where I hope to make a 30-year career within the Postal Service.

Looking for Photos for Yearbook

With the closure of in-person classes and sports (at least right now) because of COVID-19, the yearbook class needs your help! We need the following photos, and would really appreciate it if you would send photos of your high school student to the yearbook class:

- Doing online/virtual lessons

- In their spring sports uniforms

- Playing their spring sports (can be photos from previous years - including before high school)

- Doing fun family activities while stuck at home

Please send your photos to treanorh@estacada.k12.or.us - we can't guarantee that all will be used, but we could really use your help to get us as many photos as possible!

Thanks,

Ms. Treanor and the Yearbook Student Journalists
