Literacy Corner
-at, -an, and -ap. While introducing the word families we talked about changing the beginning sounds to make new words and how the words rhyme with each other. The class generated a list of words for each word family. They are now posted on the wall for them to use at anytime. The students did a great job with this activity.
Our thematic unit for the week was Dr. Seuss. Not only did we have many guest readers and special days to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss, we also read an abundance of Dr. Seuss books. We also began working on story maps in class this week. We discussed what happened first, next and last in the story Green Eggs and Ham. The students did a good job, please work on this skill with them at home after reading with your child. We also wrote about what we would tell mom when she came home after the Cat and the Hat were at our your house...would they tell you the truth or would they tell you something else. Many students said they would tell the truth, and many made up stories. They did a great job with their writing. I am very proud of the progress that they have been making. Please continue to work on these skills at home with your child.
Next week we will begin our unit on living and nonliving things. We will also introduce a new sight word and continue to work on our writing skills. We will also begin working on research in class. The students are very excited about this.
