Throughout the Years 2000 to 2015
2000 to 2005 What We Gained and What We Lost...
Throughout this time period we gained three major websites that almost everyone uses daily. We gained Wikipedia in 2001, Facebook in 2004, and YouTube in 2005. But we did lose a lot too. In 2001, America will never forget the terrible tragedy that occur, the World Trade Center was bombed, as was the Pentagon. Over 3,000 brave children, women, and men died. It was an event that enhanced airport security, it changed how we see others, I feel there is more stereotypes against a handful of people because of that day. In 2004 George W. Bush was re-elected, he was our 43rd president, and a great leader.
2006 to 2010 What Was Lost and Gained...
The Internet just keeps growing and growing, during 2006 we gained yet another social media site, Twitter. Google became more enhanced in 2007, with the new street view mapping. Apple launches the iPhone for the first time. During this time a lot of enhancing technology was created, like 3D scanning, and mind control headsets for video games. President Obama was elected in 2009, the 44th President of America! Though we lost many to suicide bombers and natural causes like earthquakes.
2011 to 2015 What We Lost and Gained...
2011 didn't have much going on, but 2012 on the other hand... The Mayan calendar had ended, a large amount of people thought that the world was going to end, as well as some more enhanced technology, more smartphones and tablets. 2013 just like 2011 didn't have much to show for, besides the fact that some NSA documents were leaked and now the guy who leaked them is in a different country. In 2014 it happened to be the 100th anniversary of World War 1 and the new World Trade Center was opened!! The new thing in technology then was having a "smart" watch. OH! But dare I forget the tragic Ebola epidemic that occurred, pretty sure that scared us all! 2015, hmm how can I describe 2015 in one word? Astonishing. In 2015 the U.S. decided to legalize same-sex marriage! If that doesn't show that we're moving forward then I don't know what does, well... besides our advanced technology of course. Though there were many shootings during this year around 300 to give an estimate, now that's... terrible honesty. None of those should have ever happened.
"What separates us from the animals, what separates us from the chaos, is our ability to mourn people we've never met." - David Levithan. I hope at least one of you who reads my article can feel some sympathy for those who we lost in all of the tragedies of the 2000s.
To Conclude...
The internet has been booming and I don't think it'll stop anytime soon. The world is growing and advancing, the levels of technology that we have today hadn't even been thought of one hundred years ago. We are very advanced from where we had been one hundred years ago, but then again, I know we can go further with our technology. This year, I hope, will be very promising, as will the years to come.
