9/8/15 Welcome to 2nd Grade!

Welcome to our classroom!

Welcome to second grade! This newsletter contains important information about the first days of school. Newsletters will be sent home every Friday, informing you of important events as well as sharing with you the fun things we are up to in second grade.

My goal is to make this year the most amazing year for your child! We are so excited that Clarkston Elementary is now a LEADER IN ME school! We will be focusing on developing our leadership skills and using our gifts and talents to make amazing changes in our community and the world around us! I can't wait for the exciting year ahead!

The School Day

  • Our school hours are from 8:15 - 3:35.
  • We have recess from 12:00 - 12:30, and lunch from 12:30 - 1:00.
  • It is our school policy that the children walk themselves to their classrooms. This helps them to become independent little people! Thank you for your understanding.
  • If you arrive to school early to pick up your child for an appointment, etc., please stop in the office. They will contact our classroom and let me know to send your child to the office, ready to go.

Snack Time!

To keep those brains working until lunch time, we are going to have a snack every morning. Please help your child choose a healthy, PEANUT-FREE snack. I have provided snack for today, but please begin to send your child to school with their snack tomorrow.

Meet Mrs. Fuller!

I am very excited to have the opportunity to teach your child this year. Just a bit about myself...

I graduated with my elementary education degree from MSU (Go Green!). After graduation I completed my year-long internship in a second grade classroom in Pontiac. I also hold a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Oakland University.

We just moved this summer from Oxford, and are patiently waiting for our home in Clarkston to be ready! My husband, Nate, teaches 5th grade here at CE. We have three boys, and two of our sons attend CE! Logan is 8 years old and is a third grader, and Wyatt is 5 and is a kindergartner. Sawyer, the baby of the family, is 3. Our boys are the love of our lives and keep us very busy!

This is my 14th year teaching at CE. I have taught second grade for 12 years, and also taught a year of first grade. I am so excited to see this new group of children grow and learn! I can’t imagine a better fit for me - CE is a perfect place to work! I look forward to getting to know your child and family this year.

Communication

I feel very strongly that a strong home-school connection is vital to your child's education. Please, at any time, contact me with any questions you may have. Because I can only answer my phone during non-student times, email is a wonderful way to reach me. If you have an urgent message to get to me or to your child, I ask that you call the office and they will contact me in the classroom.

Blue Daily Folders

I have made each child a blue Daily Folder. This folder contains daily communication from our classroom and the school. Please go through this folder nightly with your child. Don't forget to have your child return the folder to school the next day! This gives the children a designated place to put communication from me to you. This is also a great way to send notes to me, as the children empty their folders each morning.

Star of the Week

To help us build a strong classroom community, we would love to learn more about each child in our class and their family. Each student will have the opportunity to be our “Star of the Week!” When your child is the star, he or she is asked to bring a poster board to school that features the star- your child! He/she is also welcome to bring a “show and tell” as well as a well-rehearsed book to read aloud to the class. A note will come home the Friday before your child’s week with more information. Stars are asked to share their posters, show and tell, and books in class on Monday, and the poster stays on display in the classroom for the entire week.

Your Child's Birthday

We would love to celebrate your child’s birthday in our classroom. If you would like to send a treat for our class, please feel free to send it in on your child’s birthday (A Friday or Monday for a weekend birthday is fine). Please write me a note or an email to let me know when you would like to send a treat. CE's policy is that all treats and snacks are peanut free. As of today, we have 24 students in our class.

If your child has a summer birthday we will celebrate his/her half birthday. You can send in a treat on your child’s half birthday.

Classroom Volunteers & Room Parents

I LOVE and appreciate help in our classroom! Parent volunteers are scheduled on a bi-weekly basis or on specific days, depending on what works for your schedule. Parents can also help by completing “jobs” at home and/or help us in the computer lab, too! A classroom volunteer sign-up with more information will be distributed on Curriculum Night.

Please check our PTO folder for information about ROOM PARENTS! We are excited to have a room parent or two in each classroom to assist our team with planning and organizing our classroom parties. Please let me know if you are interested in being our team's room parent this year.

Curriculum Night - Tuesday, September 15th!

I look forward to seeing you on our Curriculum Night this Tuesday, September 15th at 6:00 pm! You will have a chance to tour our classroom and hear some important team information about your child's day, our philosophy of teaching, Leader in Me, classroom volunteering, etc! Hope to see you there!
