The civil rights movement

The path to freedom by: Rosalee Templeton

Journey to the past, and how we grew from it.

The civil rights movement was a pivetol moment in Americas history. Because it was the first step to evolution-ize the way people saw race and freedom. The fight for equality was longer than 1955-1968, but the true fight was the leaders who spoke out politically and actually made a stand to make African American have a better life in America. Everyone is equal, different colored skin, religion, or culture dosen't prove that one of us is better than the other. We all are human and should acknowledge that fact, we feel, breath, and communicate.

The strategies for fighting inequality.

The sit-ins pioneered by CORE rapidly spread across the southern United States in 1960, also the bus boycotts were the most popular to begin with for the civil rights movement.Martin Luther king.Jr was a icon for the nonviolence movement and helped CORE organize events to facilities, court houses, and more. The buss boycott was a large protest against the segregation of the transportation, it hurt bus transportation, and businesses. Many businesses were hurt from the excessive boycotts because many customers would be stalled.

Others would try to sue, and win a supreme court trial to prove their point on the injustice of inequality. In the Brown v. Board of Education, Chief Earl Warren, reading his first opinion from the bench, said; "We conclude, unanimously, that in the field of public education the doctrine of 'separate but equal' has no place. Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal." This quote is from the Chief Warren, to express his disgust on the inability for children of color to have the same education.

Buss boycotts were becoming bigger and bigger, after Rosa parks took a stand on the segregation in buses, and she got arrested for it. The freedom riders were groups of men and women going around in buses trying to unsegregated buses. Many were killed, injured, or jailed. Some attempts were given to explode the buses, and a couple weren't even hurt.

Bob Dylan, Times the are a-changing

Come gather ’round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin’
Then you better start swimmin’ or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won’t come again
And don’t speak too soon
For the wheel’s still in spin
And there’s no tellin’ who that it’s namin’
For the loser now will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin’

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don’t stand in the doorway
Don’t block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There’s a battle outside and it is ragin’
It’ll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin’

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don’t criticize
What you can’t understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin’
Please get out of the new one if you can’t lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin’

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin’
And the first one now will later be last
For the times they are a-changin’

Analysis of "Times they are A-changin"

Bob Dylan's message is a powerful one, because he's saying times are changing and its time to get a new mind, heart, and perspective, because things eventually change.
"Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don’t criticize
What you can’t understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin’
Please get out of the new one if you can’t lend your hand"

Meaning that let your children free to the new path to come and if your not going to be with the new path get out of the new one. And that you shouldn't criticize because something is different.
