AmeriCorps Literacy Tutor
Westside Elementary is seeking a North Dakota Reading Corps literacy tutor for the 2017-18 school year!
As a tutor, you will implement research-based strategies to help children in grades 1-3 succeed in reading. As a tutor, you will receive a living allowance of about $675 monthly for reduced half-time (20 hours/week) and an education award of $2,199 (RHT) to be used for college tuition and current student loans. (Tutors who are 55 or older may choose to transfer their education award to a child, grandchild or foster child.) Tutoring takes place during the school day when school is in session, making it a great fit for parents with school-age children. Training and support are provided throughout the year.
Give a year of service to grow our communities. Apply today to become a tutor! Go to www.ndseec.com/readingcorps. The position begins at the start of the school year. Send questions to Jolene Garty at gartyj@ndseec.com or call (701) 446-3173.

Visitation Procedures
We welcome you to our school; however, all parents, volunteers, and visitors must sign in at the Westside Main Office through our LobbyGuard security system (please have your driver’s license with you) and have the classroom teacher’s permission BEFORE accessing any part of the school building. NO EXCEPTIONS! The safety of our students and staff is our first priority!
Lost and Found
Often articles do not show up the first day they are lost. If you do not find the missing article, tell your child to check back a day or two later.
It is important to put your child's name in all sweatshirts, jackets, lunch bags, etc. This will enable us to return the clothing to your child.
If lost and found articles are not claimed, they will be given to a charitable organization. Feel free to contact the office if you know you're child is missing something and we can look for you.
Keeping Children Healthy
Calling for absence
If your child will be absent from school, please call the office at 356-2110
before school starts at 8:10. Attendance is taken daily and it is important
that all students are accounted for at the start of the school day.Bus Tags
At Westside our top priority is keeping students safe. Our new Bus tags system will help us keep your student/s safe. The tags need to be worn by your child for the whole school year. Please do NOT remove the tag from your child’s backpack. If your child needs a new tag, please call the office. Each child that rides the bus will have a tag attached
to their backpack that they will scan upon getting on and off the bus. This
will help us in tracking our students and keeping them safe. Please contact the office if you have any questions.
FEDERAL EDUCATION LAW
Through federal education law, parents have the right to request information on the professional qualifications of the teachers and paraprofessionals at our school. If you are interested in learning this information, please contact the school administration office at (701) 356-2110. Upon this request, you will receive a detailed explanation of the licensing, education, and experience of each of our teachers. You will also receive information regarding the names and qualifications of the paraprofessionals at our school(s).
