Week of September 12-16, 2016

Upcoming Events!

September 23- Regal Vineyard Field Trip (remember to send those permission slips and money in!) Cost is $8. Please pack a lunch that doesn't require a microwave - we will be eating there!

September 28- CARES Parent Group Fundraiser at Quaker Steak and Lube in Mentor (bring flyer so the proceeds can go to our students and the parent group!)

CARES Parent Group Meeting

Thanks to all of the parents and teachers that were able to attend the first meeting of the CARES Parent Group! The meeting included introductions of committee members, upcoming events and fundraisers. This will not only be a great resource to raise money for CARES and the students at CARES but also support for other parents to one another! We will keep you posted on the date for the next meeting and any other upcoming events!

Classroom News!

Community Classroom

Did this week fly by or what?!?! Probably because we have all been working so hard out in the community working on our new skills!

Our independence is increasing and we know our job expectations. New skills are being introduced and the students are excited to learn them!

Next week we are going to begin time studies on the jobs we have learned. This will give us a great baseline and something to go off of to see how our speed and stamina is increasing at each task we learn.

Have a great weekend - I am really looking forward to our trip on Friday to Regal Vineyards. We had such a great time last year that I can't wait to experience it again!

Academic Classroom

First month down! We had a very busy week this week! This week's New-2-You lesson was themed "Hurricane Season". This talked about geography locations that frequent hurricanes, how hurricanes form, and how to stay safe during a storm. We discussed what items we should have in a storm safety bag (water, flashlights, batteries, etc) and our safety plans at school. We also made pinwheels to show the wind directions of a hurricane and how a little bit of air can do a lot of movement!

Our Unique Learning System government unit continued. This week we talked about having the right to make choices. We used that extension to talk about our interests and choosing a club that would match our interest.

Great job everyone and have a great weekend!
