Blowfish reading logs are due to the Media Center. Students who read 4 books will receive free admission and special recognition at the June 15th Blowfish home game. The school with the highest participation rate receives $500 for new library books and will be recognized on field before the game. Instructions will be sent home later with information on how to redeem prizes for the game.

    SC Book Award Challenge

Completion forms must be returned to the Media Center if a student reaches LEVEL 4 OR HIGHER. These are the blue or green forms that students have used throughout the year to keep track of the nominee books. TO RECEIVE CREDIT, AN ONLINE BOOK REVIEW MUST HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED FOR EACH BOOK READ!

    * Students who completed Level 4 or higher will be invited to attend the Reading Celebration the morning of May 12.

** Those doing the ULTIMATE CHALLENGE will also receive a gift certificate to shop the May book fair!

Language Arts

The spelling lesson this week is an extension of last week's lesson. This week we are changing the y to i when we add a suffix that begins with the letter e.

Each child has chosen a desert animal to research, and we will begin taking notes on that animal using a variety of sources. We are researching desert animals to go along with a play we will be performing for parents at our end of the year celebration on May 22nd.

We have brainstormed many ideas for our ABC books about second grade, and are in the process of drafting those books this week.

I was unable to grade and return fact tests last week, so we will not have a fact test this week. I did return your child's fact test to them today. Please continue to help them study.

We have started Chapter 6 in My Math, which is adding three digit numbers with and without regrouping. We will also be working on solving word problems that involve three digit numbers.

We are in the process of discussing life cycles and learning about the life cycles of different animals and insects. Today we discussed the life cycle of a frog and a praying mantis.
