Hey Cal Gymnastics Fans!

We hope everyone is enjoying their holiday and is ready to ring in the New Year. As we enter the 101st season of Cal Men’s Gymnastics, I just wanted to express my deepest and sincerest gratitude to all of those who have and will continue to support the program. Without you, these young men who are continuing more than a century old legacy would not be here.

For those of you who are not up to date with the team, we lost a tremendous amount of key performers from the 2012 team; graduating a total of eight seniors. From the 2012 team, we are returning seven members with multiple All-American statuses. Joining them this year, we welcome thirteen talented individuals from all across the nation who’ve already made an immediate impact on the team. Some may say this is a rebuilding year for us and we’re not considered a threat. Well, I think we’ll surprise you. So get ready.

Entering their 3rd year as coaches, Head Coach Tim McNeill and Assistant Coach Colin Christ has provided the team with continuous knowledge, leadership and motivation throughout the off-season. Returning this year as volunteer coaches are 2011 graduates Bryan del Castillo and myself, Kyle Bunthuwong. In addition, Dennis Mannhart (2012 All-American on PB & HB) and Glen Ishino (2012 PH National Champion) will join the staff as graduate assistant coaches. With the amount of experience this coaching staff has acquired over the years, you should not expect less than perfection from this Cal team.

Sunday January 13th at 2:00pm marks the beginning of the 2013 campaign. We start off the season at Haas Pavilion against Stanford, who is ranked #5 in the preseason polls. We would love to have everyone come out and support the Cal Men’s Gymnastic Team whether it be in the stands or not. Your love and support is what fuels this team and we want to keep that fire burning! Keep an eye out for our Facebook event invites because they may have some announcements regarding the home competitions.

As I closeout this newsletter, I would like to reiterate my sincerest gratitude to everyone that has helped keep this program going. Your continuous support for this team and the sport in general could not be measured. Without all of you, this time of the year would not be as merry.

Have a Merry Christmas, a fantastic New Year’s…and of course, GO BEARS!!
