Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept 15 - Oct 15
I found an interesting lesson plan for this month and some resources from Teaching Tolerance which I will link below, and if you look Destiny, you can see all of the picture books we have that are particularly good right now. Hispanic Heritage Resource List In addition, there is an amazing mural on the side of the Las Americas market/restaurant on Cherry Road that would be a great reference.
September is also Deaf Awareness Month!

Lovecraft Country--For Adults and Older Teens
If you've been watching Lovecraft Country on HBO, you know that the show is based on a novel that both draws from the works of HP Lovecraft and is also an unflinching look at the treatment of Black Americans in the 1950s. They manage to pack a lot of history into each episode--so much that the Langston League has created a Black history syllabus to go along with each episode. These include historical context and connections, further readings and ideas for field trips and research in your own town. Even if the show is not for you, give the syllabus a try--it's a wealth of information. Click on the image below.
