Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year!!
New Student Orientation-August 8th
On August 8th we will be having a New Family Orientation for our incoming Kindergarten students, as well as any new families that will be attending Indian Prairie. There will be two different times offered for families to attend. Families may attend the 11:30-12:15 session, or the 5:30-6:15 session. The purpose of the orientation is to share information about our school, and take a tour of our building. Please note, we will not be meeting teachers at this time.
Supply Drop-Off-August 16th
Supply drop off will be Tuesday, August 16. There will be 2 sessions to drop off your supplies organized alphabetically by your last name:
A-L-9:00-9:45 AM
M-Z-9:45-10:30 AM
If you are not able to attend either one of these sessions, your child may bring their supplies with them on the first day of school. Please see link below for the school supply list.
**Please remember that decorations for lockers are not allowed.
First Day of School
When: Wednesday, August 17, grades 1-5
Time: 9:00 am-2:00 pm (Early Release)
What to Bring: Bring your backpack and school supplies, if you were not able to attend Supply Drop Off.
Arrival: Please see below for procedures
First Day of school for Kindergarten is August 18, full day schedule
Morning Supervision
Just a reminder as we head into this year that morning arrival starts at 8:30, please do not bring or send your child to school before that time as there will be no supervision until 8:30. Students are expected to be in their classrooms ready for instruction by 9:00 am.
Please be aware that after the first morning drop-off, for safety reasons, parents must stay on the perimeter of the school. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Staggered Dismissal Request Form
Indian Prairie will be continuing this year with the staggered car rider dismissal system.
There are four staggered dismissal bells for our car riders: 1st bell, 2nd bell, 3rd bell, and Open Bell. Any family that is not assigned one of the first three bells will be able to pick up their child on the open bell at 3:29.
This is the same time our walkers will be dismissed out the walker doors. The staggered dismissal times will be adjusted on Early Release days (see schedules below).
Every family at Indian Prairie receives one car rider sign with the family's last name during supply drop off (or the first day of school if you are not able to attend). Families that have been assigned to one of the early dismissal bells will have coding on their car tag to indicate their dismissal assignment. Cars will not be able to enter the parking lot until their assigned time. There will be an employee at the entrance of the lot holding a sign so cars know when it is their designated time to enter the lot.
We will be using BOTH lanes to fill the pick up area with families that are assigned to the first bell. We should be able to fit approximately 20 cars in the lot for each bell. Student safety is our number one priority, so please be sure to follow staff directions when entering the lot and after your child has loaded. If you arrive prior to your scheduled bell time, please stay in the “waiting lane” by the curb until it is your assigned time. When it is your assigned time, you can carefully enter the driving lane and enter the parking lot. Please wait until your assigned time to do this, as we will not be allowing families into the lot before their assigned time since it will cause a traffic backup.
The bell times are as follows:
1st Bell - 3:20 (1:50 Early Release)
2nd Bell - 3:23 (1:53 Early Release)
3rd Bell - 3:26 (1:56 Early Release)
Open Bell - 3:29 (1:59 Early Release)
If you are interested in being dismissed at an earlier bell, please read the attached letter and fill out the request form. Forms must be filled out by Monday, August 8, to be considered for early dismissal. Please note that completing the form does not guarantee an early dismissal bell assignment. If we receive more requests than assignments available, we will be assigning the spots based on the first requests that we receive.
New Procedure for Items Being Dropped Off During the School Day
With the growing concern for safety in our schools, we are implementing a new procedure this year for items being dropped off during the school day. Any items that need to be dropped off for a student, (for example, lunches, water bottles, hats, gloves, Show and Tell, homework), will now be placed in a black bin that will be located outside of the front doors of the building. Please label your child's belongings with the child's name, and teacher name. We will have a clip board with a pen and sticky notes for you to be able to label in case you forget. Please ring the door bell to let us know you placed an item in the bin and one of the office staff will go out to retrieve the item and get it to your child. Our students safety is our number one priority, thank you so much for your understanding as we continue to take steps to make sure our building is secure at all times.
***Also, we are asking any visitors that will be visiting our building to be prepared to answer some questions about identity and reason for visit at the doorbell camera. Thank you for your patience with this matter.
Water Bottles
Just a reminder that water bottles only will be allowed in the classroom. Please do not send your child with Gatorade, Starbucks, Juice, etc. Please make sure child's water bottle is labeled with their name.
Bus Routes
As we get closer to the first day of school, please be checking ParentVue daily for your students assigned bus route. Routes can change as the district receives more registrations, so please continue to check up until the first day of school for any changes.
Communication Expectations
As we launch the 2022-23 school year, we’d like to remind families that teachers, staff and principals prioritize teaching and learning and engaging with students during the school day. They are not expected to monitor their email while school is in session. Please allow 24-48 hours for an email response. If your concern is urgent, please contact the school’s main office. The office is unable to handle drop-in appointments, if you need to speak to a school administrator, please schedule an appointment. Thank you.
Seesaw is also not meant to be used as a messaging system to contact teachers. Please email your child's teacher if you need to communicate with them.
Cell Phones
Please remember that per state law, (625 ILCS 5/12-601.1, "A person, regardless of age, may not use a wireless telephone at any time while operating a motor vehicle on a roadway in a school speed zone. An exemption allows the use of a wireless telephone in voice-activated mode, although the use of a wireless telephone in any mode in a school zone is discouraged by this department"). Cell phone usage while operating a vehicle on the school property is strictly prohibited. For the safety of the students, please refrain from using your cell phone in any way, while operating a vehicle on school property. This includes during pickup and drop off while you are waiting in line. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Students and Cell Phones
Just a reminder that if students bring their cell phones to school, they are to be turned off and be kept in their backpack. This includes before school on the playgrounds, as well as after school while waiting to be picked up and in the bus lines. If a student is found with a phone during these times, for the first offense the student will receive a minor. The second offense, the phone will be taken away from the student, and the parent will be called to pick the phone up in the office. Thank you in advance for continuing to talk to your children about the rules of cell phone usage during school hours.
Volunteer Procedure
If you are a volunteer who will be visiting our building throughout the year, you must fill out a brief online application. The application process includes a background check conducted by Raptor. Volunteers must fill out and submit an application each school year. To fill out the application, please go to D47.org, click on the parent tab, and then the volunteer tab at the bottom. This will take you to the information page for the D47 Volunteer Process.
