Triple Pleasure, Triple Speed, Triple Environmental Benefits

The all-inclusive negative, and continually demeaning effects on the health of our planet Earth, are contributed by the accumulative effect of everyday human activities over the last 100+ years. Everyone knows this and this is now common knowledge. But what everyone doesn't know is that we have a virtuous and communal commitment, as people of Earth, to decrease, if not, thwart these effects. As individuals, we must have both the means and the knowledge to carry out the implementation of measures. That is why I, Aashan M, has created this company to educate high school students on the environmental detriments of transportation misuse.

Before you continue reading this astounding flyer, please submit your survey on the following link if you have not done so already:

Transportation Methods You Use:

PROS & CONS OF TRANSPORTATION METHODS:

Well.. Now as high school students, you may be a bit confused as to what is going on and what is good and bad about each of the transportation methods. This is clearly visible from your surveys. To express on this, I have described the pros and cons below:

WALKING/BIKING:

PROS:

- No Pollution/Eco-Friendly

- Form of Exercise and Keeps you Healthy

- Free of Cost

CONS:

- Time Consuming

- Uncomfortable/Tiring

1 PUBLIC TRANSIT BUS:

PROS:

- Faster than walking/biking

- Does not emit much pollution due to riding it with others & only one bus

- Runs in winter so protects from cold

- Less expensive than school bus

CONS:

- Slower than school buses and cars because of multiple stops

- More pollution than walking/biking

- Only arrives at certain times and has bus stops

- More expensive than biking/walking

>1 PUBLIC TRANSIT BUS

PROS:

- Faster than Walking/Biking

- Does not emit much pollution due to riding with others

- Runs in winter, so Cold Protection

- Cheaper than school bus

CONS:

- Slower than school buses and cars because of multiple stops

- More pollution than walking/biking

- Only arrives at certain times at have to wait to catch next bus

- More expensive than walking/biking

SCHOOL BUS

PROS:

- Faster than Walking/Biking & Public Transit

- Does not emit much pollution due to riding with others

- Runs in Winter, so Cold Protection

- More people from your school

- Stops in front of your house

CONS:

- Slower than Car

- Usually Congested

- More pollution than walking/biking

- If you miss it, you can't ride another one

- More Expensive than Public Transit & Walking/Biking

CARPOOL

PROS:

- Have Company

- Runs in Winter, so Cold Protection

- Fastest

- Personal Comfort (A/C, radio, etc.)

- Saves gas per person, so cheaper than car

CONS:

- Have to pick up/drop off someone

- 2nd Most ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

- Pay for gas, so Most Expensive

CAR

PROS:

- Runs in Winter, so Cold Protection

- Fastest

- Personal Comfort (A/C, radio, etc)

CONS:

- Most ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

- Pay for Gas, so Most Expensive

Now, according to you, what you may think is that Cars are the best option because they have the least amount of cons. However this is completely WRONG. This is because Environmental Pollution is equivalent to many more than one con. You will find out why below:

IN NUMBERS

Transportation:

- responsible for 30% of greenhouse gas emissions(GHG) in the US

- responsible for 22% of CO2 emissions globally

- accounts for >1/2 of the net increase in total GHG emissions from 1990-2011

- consumes nearly 60% of the world's oil & demand is anticipated to grow by 2.5% annually

Carpooling:

- only 1/2 the amount of emissions as using Car

Public Transit:

- replacing with driving saves a household >$6000 annually

- reduces CO2 emissions by 37 million metric tons annually

YOUR SURVEYS

According to your surveys,

a) Walking/Biking: Most of you don't walk or bike to school because it is way too far away and it will consume too much time. Fair Enough. However, if you live close to your school and only avoid walking because of the cold weather, then you should seriously reconsider that because you are actually using up a lot more emission than you normally would.

b) 1 Public Transit Bus: For those of you who use 1 public transit bus, good for you. You are saving both money and protecting the environment. For those who don't, and use cars, you should reconsider this because of reasons listed earlier.

c) >1 Public Transit Bus: For those of you who have to take >1 public transit buses, keep doing so. For those who don't, but could use this instead of cars, you should do so. Although it takes time, you can save both money and the environment as well.

d) School Bus: Unfortunately, for those of you that have already paid the $1400 fee for the "Bus to School" program, you don't have much choice. School Buses do decrease emission than cars, but they are still decent. School Buses are cheaper than cars, but just take more time. However, unlike public transit buses, they bring you straight to your house.

e) Carpooling: Well, we all know that cars have many, many disadvantages just due to the great amount of environmental pollution. If you really have to use cars for disabilities and whatnot, you can. However, it would be a better idea to carpool with someone because then you only emit 1/2 the amount of carbon a regular car would. This should be used as a last resort.

f) Cars: Just avoid them as much as possible.

THE POINT

Well... after all this, you may be still wondering why it is so important to protect the environment and what all these numbers mean. Well, in theory, all this means is that one day, the environment will look like the picture below and you really do not want it to like:

A VIDEO

To further educate you, a video has been included below that describes the environmental impacts of transportation:

IN CONCLUSION

Okay, let's be real, some of you will still continue to use your cars and will disregard this entire flyer, right? To prevent this, a competition has been created.

THE RULES:

1) You must go to school each day in a week, and record both mornings and afternoons.

2) You must keep track of how you traveled to and fro school each day.

3) Convert your recordings into points using this method:

- CAR = 0 points

- CARPOOL = 5 points

- >1 BUS PUBLIC TRANSIT = 7 points

- SCHOOL BUS = 10 points

- 1 BUS PUBLIC TRANSIT = 12 points

- WALKING/BIKING = 20 points

4) After converting these points, please contact me with the business card.

5) Good Luck and Have Fun.

By the way, for this competition the prize will be:
