Indian Creek Elementary - September 2016
Principal's Message
Dear Indian Creek Parents,
I am excited to share some new additions to our STEM program for the 2016 2017 school year. Our most notable is our Mac Lab. It has not only changed locations but has changed names to Computer Science but is also an all new focus on Computer Science. During CS, students will learn computer programming and coding through new CS curriculum and will be participating in CS Modules from Project Lead the Way, PLTW. MSDLT has offered Project Lead the Way at the secondary level and now Indian Creek students will participate in PLTW modules as well.
The STEM Lab 1 will not only have a new name but will also have a new teacher. STEM Lab 1 will now be known as Robotics and Design (R&D) and our very own Mr. Nelson will be teaching all grade levels in R&D. Students will continue to have exposure to Lego Mindstorm curriculum but with Mr. Nelson lead students will also have new experiences with Vex Robotics.
Finally, we are adding new STEM specific curriculum from Picture Perfect Science in our remaining STEM Lab. All these changes are in addition to our classroom teachers continued emphasis on incorporating STEM into core instructional. The goal of all these changes are to continue to provide students with opportunities that are unique to Indian Creek Elementary. This school year Indian Creek student will document their STEM learning using Google Slides as a STEM portfolio. Students started their STEM portfolios last school year and will be able to add it this coming school year. All these changes are in place to ensure that your student has access to the most innovative resources and instruction in their classroom.
