December 2019 - Happy Holidays
Dear MUSD Community,
As we close our first semester and embrace this well-needed break in our school schedule, I want to extend my best wishes to each of you for a wonderful holiday season. This time of year is often filled with such a hectic pace for families. With finals and the first semester concluding this week, both our staff and students are feeling their respective stress this time of year. Take a moment and reflect beyond those stresses, my first thought jumps to how many things I am grateful for in MUSD. All things considered, it has been and always will be the people that I am most grateful for.
We are so lucky to have teachers, counselors, psychologists, librarian, administrators, and other staff that care so deeply about the success of their students and commit so much of their personal and professional time to ensure positive outcomes for students. MUSD is full of classified staff that take great pride in supporting students, keeping our learning environments safe, feeding our students, keeping our technology running and serving as the backbone of our school operations. When we pair the efforts of our staff with the support of this parent community there is a synergy created that will always net a positive return for our youth and shapes our brighter future. I offer my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all those individuals described above that make MUSD a special place for students and the anchor point of our great community.
I hope all of you have a chance to relax and spend time with loved ones over the next weeks. Most of all, I hope that time is filled with laughter. I have been studying the work of Brene Brown over the last year, and believe she has accurately described laughter with the following quote, “The only universal language I know of that wraps up joy and gratitude and love is laughter.”
As we continue our work together in MUSD in the second semester, we will remain focused on addressing areas of need throughout the district, working to improve outcomes for all students, and creating a climate of continuous growth and improvement. While we are on break, and even when we return in 2020, I wish you all safe travels and lots of laughter. Happy Holidays, from my family to yours.
Sincerely,
CJ Cammack, Superintendent

John Muir Elementary Selected as a California Distinguished School
Yesterday, we were notified by State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond, that John Muir Elementary was selected as a California Distinguished School for 2020. John Muir was one of only five schools in all of Contra Costa County to be selected for this prestigious honor. Only 323 schools in all of California were identified for this recognition.
I am very pleased the students, staff, alumni, and community of John Muir are being recognized for their hard work and commitment to student success! Congratulations to the Timberwolf family! You can read about their recognition from the California Department of Education here: CDE Announcement
