Mrs. Smith’s Snapchat…
Dear Lakeside Families,
I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know how excited the Lakeside family is about the start of the school year and to share our process for emergency preparedness. In an effort to make sure our students and staff understand and know what to do in the case of emergencies, we plan practice drills throughout the school year. Some of these drills include procedures we practice monthly, like fire drills, and some we practice only a few times during the year, like wind/tornado drills.
We wanted you to be aware of the types of drills that we practice together in the event of a school safety concern so that you can talk with your students about these situations if they should come home with questions.
Fire Drills – Students and staff evacuate their classrooms and exit the building. All classrooms report to a designated location outside of the school building. During these drills, cars entering campus will be stopped by staff until our perimeter is clear of students and staff.
Wind/Tornado Drills – Students and staff report to designated locations in the building away from large windows and doors with windows. During this drill, our exterior doors will be locked so that all office staff can participate as well.
Lockdown Drills – Our buildings are secured internally and externally. Students remain with staff and wait for directions. During these drills, if you visit the campus, you may see law enforcement agencies like Warren Police, parked on our campus supporting this practice.
Bus Evacuation Drills – Students practice exiting the bus using emergency exits upon arriving to school. During these drills, cars entering campus will be stopped by staff until our perimeter is clear of students and staff.
It is important to note that your student’s focus and cooperation during our drills are paramount. When drills are conducted, all individuals on our campus must participate, and that number can be upwards of 515 people. Paying attention, being alert and following directions allows for the best learning experience during the drills. Please reinforce this at home. Also, please know that if you are in the building when these drills are being practiced, you will be asked to practice with our school.
I appreciate your support and ask that you reach out with any questions.

Warren Snapchat…
We are excited to provide students with technology to enhance their learning experiences in the MSD of Warren Township. Each student will be assigned a device for classroom use. Students in grades K-2 will be assigned an iPad and students in grades 3 & 4 will be assigned a Chromebook. Devices will be kept at school and charged in a classroom cart. Students are responsible for proper care and use of their device.
Each device is covered by a by a district-sponsored insurance program for damage. This keeps charges for both intentional and accidental damages low. Both purposeful and accidental damage will be charged at a reduced rate.
Repair ~Family Charge
1st-$5
2nd-$25
3rd-$50
More than 3-The actual cost of repair or $50
How does the district ensure student safety with the use of student devices?
Warren Township employs a variety of methods to manage the student devices including Internet filtering, and application restrictions.
Internet Filtering software collects information about the sites that students access. Whether a use is off task or appropriate depends on the time of day, the student’s schedule, and the teacher’s instructions. If a student attempts to access an inappropriate site, a notification is generated and the filtering software blocks the viewing of that site.
Students are also taught about appropriate use and care for their devices by their classroom teachers. Specific age-appropriate lessons have been created for use with all students.

CAR RIDERS/DAYCARE Student Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures
We ask that our parents follow these guidelines to ensure that every student has a safe arrival and dismissal:
All students will be required to be dropped off and picked up through the car rider line to maintain safety standards. Parking at the front and East end of the building and walking children to and from the entrances will not be allowed. We want to prevent children and adults walking through the path of cars or buses on the property at any time.
Staff members will be present outside beginning at 7:55 a.m. each morning for student drop-off. Please do not release your children until a staff member signals the beginning of our process. Students will not be counted tardy until 8:05 a.m. Our afternoon pick-up procedures will begin at 3:00 p.m. If you are in a hurry, you are encouraged to be at or near the front of the line. We will implement our dismissal procedures as quickly and safely as possible for all.
Thank you very much for your support with helping ensure Lakeside maintains safety as our priority during our student entrance and dismissal each day!
