A Weekly Look at Grant Elementary School & the Grant PTA

Week of September 23, 2019

A Message From Principal Grey

Dear Grant Community,

I am thrilled to announce that we have hired a Science Coordinator for our Makers' Space! Thanks to generous donations of PTA members, we now have a designated staff member to support student learning with our makers' cart and robotics programs.

Our Science Coordinator is Max Crysdale, son of our beloved school librarian and friend to all, Alice Crysdale. Max is a recent grad from California State University Channel Islands where he studied psychology and communication. He volunteered his time in the schools there and played baseball and soccer as well. Known to the students as Mr. Max, Max will partner with teachers to weave STEAM opportunities into our students' learning. In the next couple of weeks, classes will sign up to visit the makers' space to learn the appropriate conduct and get oriented for future visits. This space will also be open during lunchtime to students.

We are looking forward to implementing this new space with the support of Mr. Max and are so grateful to our community for making this learning experience possible for our students and teachers!

Go Shamrocks,

Ms. Grey

MakerSpace Donations Needed

In addition to working with teachers to deliver curriculum using the brand new Makerspace, our new Science Coordinator, Mr.Max, is also offering an alternative at lunch recess for children who would like to go to the science room, E4. He is looking for the following donations (gently used ok): legos, markers, crayons, colored pencils, scissors, stickers, craft paper, coloring books, games and puzzles. Donations can be delivered to the office. Thank you for your support!

The Grant Jogathon is here!

Grant students are already collecting pledges in anticipation of this year's Jogathon. It's one of Grant's biggest fundraisers of the year and we are counting on everyone to participate. Our goal this year is to raise 40k. We can only do it with your help, so let's get motivated! If you get $10 donations from 10 people, you're benefitting Grant so much. You can do it! Create your Pledgestar account here and get started

This week, you'll also get a packet for cash donations.

The jogathon will be held on 10/18 and we'll be looking for volunteers. Details on class running times will be coming soon.

Picture Day is Over, Now What?

Mugsy Clicks took school pictures at Grant this year. This company allows you to view several different portraits of your student online after your photo day and choose the ones you like best. You should get an access code to use on where you can look at your proofs and place your order. Find details at

Does your student need a makeup day? Mugsyclicks will be back on October 24th! Don't worry, we will remind you closer to the date. :-)

Hurry! Boon Fundraiser ends 9/25

The PTA Product Catalog Boon Supply Fundraiser is about to end. Before it closes on September 25th, please turn in order forms in the office or to teachers. You can also place orders on Grant's custom Boon website and ordering online, but hurry!

Author Raffle

Copperfield's bookstore is amazing at bringing children's authors to our town. This October they will be hosting Tui Sutherland (Wings of Fire Series) and Dav Pilkey (Captain Underpants and Dog Man Series). Since both of these authors are favorites of Grant School students, Librarian Alice Crysdale will raffle off 2 tickets to each visit. Both tickets come with a free book! If your child is interested in entering either or both of the raffles, remind him/her to come to sign up for it on Wednesdays lunch recess in the library. These visits are a great opportunity for all.

International Day is coming up on November 8th!
