Newsletter week 6 Term 4
East Gore School 25th November 2021
Principal's Report
Tena Koutou, Talofa, Namaste, Hello and Greetings
Apologies for not getting the newsletter out earlier, it has been a busy week around the school. The classes are busy finishing off their learning projects with a lot of boat building around the school. The classes are also busy getting ready for the end of year as well, this seems to be coming very quickly...
Over the next couple of weeks we will start transitioning our students into their new class groups with their teachers. This is a time for students and teachers to get to know each other and complete some art work ready to display at the start of the 2022 school year.
Yesterday we had many visitors after school to do a mini launch of the Neighbourhood Play Systems in the East Gore community. We hosted members from the Gore District Council, Ministry of Education, Active Southland, Police and media along with some of our tamariki and their whanau. The students shared their thoughts and ideas about the current green spaces in the community. From the survey earlier this term of community members we shared their ideas and thoughts. Our next step is share our findings with the wider East Gore community and then form a group from a cross section of our community to bring some of these ideas together.
And this morning, we had our three winners race around New World Gore grabbing groceries. Congratulations to Chontelle, Allan and Katelyn on grabbing the groceries you did. With all the ticket sales we raised an amazing amount of $6730! I can officially say that we will be building the new junior playground in 2022. And Nicola and Simon from New World Gore are continuing the partnership into 2022 where we will be able to do this all again.
Thank you so much Nicola and Simon, without you and your team we wouldn't have been able to hold this raffle.
Next week we are bring some Christmas joy to the office with decorations and maybe the elf will return... we will upload a clip of the office area for all to enjoy next week!!
Kia pai tō rā whakatā (have a great weekend).

End of Year Assembly
However, we are going to hold our final school assembly at school on our courts where we will only be able to invite our Year 6 students families along (keeping to our bubbles). We will record this assembly for all our other families to enjoy after this time. This assembly will be held on Monday 13 December at 12:00pm, and will enjoy a free schoolwide sausage sizzle after the event.

School Notices
Illness
The onset of winter illness is starting to affect our students. Please keep students home if the are unwell and help slow the spread of these coughs and colds. We have also had a vomiting bug doing the rounds, remember that a student must be 48 hours clear of any vomiting or diarrhoea before returning to school.
Reporting an Absence
If a student is away from school for any reason we need to know. Please text, phone or use the school app to report an absence. We need a reason for absence please, this a legal Ministry of Education requirement so please don't be offended if we ask for this.
Cellphones at School
We are noticing a few students are bringing cellphones to school. They do not need them at school because we have numerous devices for the students to complete school work on. If your child needs to bring a cellphone because of an after school activity, they must hand it in at the office. At the end of the day they can collect it from Mrs Nicholson.
Lunches in School
Unfortunately the daily fruit we were enjoying last term is not been supplied this term, we would ask parents to please send morning tea and something for healthy snack each day - ie: piece of fruit/cheese/nuts/yogurt.
Koha Kai are suppling a lovely range of lunches that our students enjoying this term - mac cheese is a definite hit!
Staying in Touch
Please remember to update any changes in your contact details to the school office, its very important that we have you latest details in case of an emergency. Thank you.
Spare Clothes
We are running short of spare clothes at school. If you child has come home in school clothing could it please be returned asap. A spare set of clothes in the school bag is a good idea this time of year.

Breakfast Club
Thank you to Emma, Phillip and the team from Grace Church for covering Breakfast club for the remainder of the year.
Your support is amazing and truly appreciated.
Just a reminder Breakfast Club starts at 8:30am and finishes at 8:53.
A huge shout out to BP Gore who very generously donate bread to Breakfast Club.
