We Have Even More Of What You Need To Know In ...
OUR WEEKLY NEWSLETTER is the single-best source there is for people trying to keep up with everything happening in our ridiculously busy town and school system, but it's not enough. So, we use this spillover space to share a comprehensive collection of valuable resources including newsletter links, calendars, social media sites and more. Plus a bonus -- each week, we have an outtake from the photo files of Paul Ofria. If we are missing something, please let Paul know at pofria@mpspride.org

Tim Cate, from Manchester to the Majors (Almost)
From Paul:
Tim Cate was drafted in the second round (68th overall) by the Washington Nationals in the 2018 Major League Baseball draft following an outstanding three-year career at UCONN, but on May 16, 2013 when this picture was taken, he was just a skinny high school sophomore pitching for Cheney Tech. Well, not just any high school sophomore..
Gary Marineau was Cheney’s coach at the time and recalls the first time he saw Tim pitch as a 14-year-old during a preseason workout. Tim was throwing a lot of strikes and hit 70 mph, which isn’t bad for a freshman, then Marineau asked if he threw a curve. Tim smiled a big smile and “threw one of the best curves I had ever seen,” said Marineau, who was elected into the Manchester Sports Hall of Fame in 2018 and is now the head baseball coach at Manchester High. “The entire team gathered around to watch him throw it.”
Tim is pitching for the Rochester Red Wings in the International League (AAA) this season, his seventh as a professional, and is just a phone call away from the major leagues.
Here’s a link to Tim’s Rochester Red Wings bio and stats, plus a video clip from 2022 when he struck out 11 batters in a game for the Wilmington Blue Rocks.
