ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Families,
Welcome to Fabulous February! Our Kindergarten hallway was buzzing this morning about a certain groundhog bringing us six more weeks of winter - it was definitely nice for students to have snow to play with after all of the ice creating a week of inside recess last week!
There are many great things happening in and out of classrooms at CCS this week ~ here are a few highlights:
● Elementary students have been enjoying middle schoolers' recycling challenge creations, which were made by advisories.
● Omega students helped to get our Windows and Mirrors Pop-Up Library set up! This is a student-built library set up in Room 211. They have done the selection, helped with decorations, and helped to move loads of heavy things! Our CCS Pop-Up Library honors the fact that we ALL need books that allow us to see reflections of ourselves, and that give us a glimpse into other people's' realities. These books validate our own experiences and remind us that we live in a diverse world. Some ways that CCS classrooms are celebrating include:
- February is "I Love to Read Month". Getting our older and younger students together to share titles available in the Pop-Up Library!
- Enjoying some quiet time exploring the collection.
- Talk about what YOUR mirror and window books are!
● Fourth graders 4th graders have been studying people who have made a difference - and now it's their turn! We saw them around the school today doing all sorts of jobs to show that they can make a difference, too. Students were seen cleaning, organizing or helping out in the cafeteria. They also helped Mrs. Huestis get the Pop Up Library set up and created this wonderful video as part of their work: Mirrors & Windows Class Invitation
● Last Friday, our school finalists participated in the National Geographic GeoBee. Congratulations to School Champion, Isabella Hackerman!
● There is a link on our CCS website to a web page for Annie now. On the CCS Site, the link is underneath "Families" - CCS Musical - Annie
We feel fortunate to be in a school where students are taking place in a wide variety of social and learning experiences!
Have a Wonderful Weekend!
Sincerely,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra

What should your school spelling bee champion study?
- Your school champion should know all the study words for grade levels 1 through 8. Make sure you print a copy of the 2018 School Spelling Bee Study List, which you can access by logging in to spellingbee.com and selecting School Bee Materials from the left menu and then choosing Study Lists from the top navigation.
- Your champion should study the words and information from 2018 Spell It!
- You may also want to make sure your champion's parents are familiar with a few quiz-based websites to help make spelling fun.
- A Word Club Season Pass includes over 100 spelling and vocabulary tests featuring more than 1,600 words from the Bee's official study resources.
- Merriam-Webster's Word Central also allows students to expand their spelling skill set by playing word games.

Whatever your talents are, we don't want you to hide your light under a bushel. Share them with your schoolmates and the community by participating in the annual CCS PTO Variety Show, where we welcome students to perform a skit, play the violin, burp the alphabet, whatever! Group performances are welcome. Two rules: have fun, and no lip-synch routines.
