The J-List
November 10, 2023
It has been a busy week at JES! But with all that is going on, our students have still been focused and working so hard in their classrooms.
We have a great week coming up with a couple big events. Our Book Fair kicked off this week with previews and the actual fair will take place this coming week. We will also have our Grandparents / Special Persons Day on Friday. You can find more information about these events in the newsletter below.
Also, please remember that we will be closed the week of November 20-24. We hope you have a festive Thanksgiving!
Finally, I would like to recognize and say THANK YOU to all of our veterans and active duty military and families for your service to our country. You are our heroes!
Thank you for the opportunity to serve this beautiful community, and please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns, questions, or joys to share with me!
GO DRAGONS!
Patrick Holladay, Principal
Thank You, Veterans!

Grandparent/Special Persons Day
We are so excited to have our Grandparents and Special Persons on campus Friday, November 17, 2023! This is a special day for our children to show their grandparents or special people their classrooms and enjoy time during lunch together. Please join us for iced tea refreshments, a special photo booth, the Spirit Shop, and the Book Fair.
Our families typically bring in their own meals to share. Due to food supplies and cafeteria staffing, only current students and staff may purchase school lunch on this day. Refreshments will be available for our guests. If you have multiple students, families are welcome to pull students from class this day so that grandparents can eat with their family during one lunch time.
For security purposes, please RSVP your grandparents/special persons in advance to expedite our check-in process. Thank you SO much for helping us! Please plan to arrive 15-20 minutes early to get checked in.

JES Angel Tree
It’s everyone’s favorite time of year! Our JES tradition of having an Angel Tree is back! Please be sure to stop by the table on Grandparents Day (next Friday) and pick out an angel or two. Please bring your angel gifts back wrapped and clearly marked with your angel’s number on Friday, December 15th.
The JES Angel Tree is separate from the Gifting Project and impacts students AT and AFFILIATED with JES. The Gifting Project impacts families in Tarrant County. The JES Angel Tree is specific to families at our school.
If you have any questions, contact our JES Counselor, Mrs. Lindsay Bailey.

JES Book Fair
JES has partnered with PaperPie for our Fall Book Fair. Students had the opportunity to preview last week and will shop Monday through Friday this upcoming week. We welcome parents and grandparents to come in and shop while on campus for Grandparents and Special Friends Day! There is also an online option for the book fair that can be accessed using this link.
Students can use an E-wallet, cash or check to purchase at the book fair. Leftover funds on your student's E-wallet will roll over for the next book fair. Please note students will need their 16 digit code to check out at the book fair! Purchase your E-wallet using this link.
Staff Spotlight
This week's Staff Spotlight is on Music Teacher Ms. Rashel Cornish, who is in her 8th year in education and 4th year at JES. She was raised in Oklahoma, but now lives here in Southlake with her two children. In addition to music, Ms. Cornish enjoys all sorts of arts, crafts, and DIY projects.
A fun fact about Ms. Cornish - she is a little Christmas crazy, and at one point, she had seven Christmas trees in her house!
JES Yearbook
Parents of 4th grade students may also purchase Dedication pages for $25 for an 1/8 page ad. Please note that this is only for 4th grade! Submit orders, pay, and build your dedication page on the Balfour JES Store site when you purchase your child’s yearbook. Thank you for purchasing early. Deadline for ad purchases is February 15, 2024.
