Beware of the Expensive Scam

You may not think so but a scam can cost you money!

Scammers are not just after your money. Scams can also be designed to steal your personal details. The types of personal information that scammers might ask for include credit card and bank account details, passport details and name and address details.

Phishing is the attempt to get sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details (and sometimes, part of a scheme to get money) by pretending to be someone you would trust.

Spyware is software that allows a cyber criminal to view things (such as, seeing through your camera, seeing what you are doing on your computer, listening to you, viewing your personal info, etc.) that are personal. Spyware can be downloaded by popups, free stuff, videos, etc.

  • Keep your browsers up to date
  • Get antispyware software from a site that you trust
  • Be careful providing info to any email or website you didn't ask for.
  • do some research before volunteering your personal info.
