RKT-
This is an awesome thing to go to (see below)! I took my teachers when I was Alternative Principal and we went through the training which helped us bond even more as a team ourselves as well as then we could take our students out to Ligon and lead them through the teamwork skills. Perhaps you could ask your teachers to save this date, get them all registered, and pay them for the day. It is worth 6 SCECHS so it will also help teachers who need to be getting their State continuing education hours so that they can renew their teaching certificates.
Which reminds me, we should talk about SCECH and how you can help your staff earn SCECH – it takes 150 to renew a teacher certificate. You can help them earn 30 each year by having them all serve on your “school improvement team” and they can earn another 30 each year serving on a school committee of some sort. I encourage all my teachers to serve on both so if they attend the meetings through the year at the end of the year they can have 60 hours toward renewing their certificate!
Also, for new teachers within their first 3 years of teaching, they have to earn 90 PD hours (section 1526 law). You will want to know which of your teachers are still within their first 3 years and ask Keri Goupil how many PD hours they have toward the 1526 law. Any that don’t already have 90 hours you should work with to develop a plan on what PD they will attend to get to the 90 total that they need. So this Ligon thing can count as 6 PD hours for those new teachers instead of SCECHs.
The Challenge Course at Ligon Outdoor Center consists of Low Ropes Activities and Team Building Initiatives - both are a series of individual and group challenges that requires teamwork skills and personal commitment. This training will cover all of the components of leading a group through the Challenge Course at Ligon - Full Value Contract, Warm-up Activities, Initiatives, Low Ropes, and Debriefing.
