Spring 2017 Best Practice - Module Resource Newsletters

This semester I created a newsletter for each module in my course. The newsletters contain extra resources, help videos, and explanations of assignments. I posted these in the classroom bulletin board and under User Links for students to reference. These newsletters were also very helpful for my transfer students and in preparation for the final exam.

Spring 2017 Best Practice - Weekly Emails and Missing Assignment Emails

This semester I emailed every section on Mondays a reminder about what was due on Wednesdays. I also emailed students who had a missing assignment on Thursdays after the due date. While this was a lot of work for me, I regularly had 90% weekly submission rates this semester. I believe this helped some of my students to transition to the weekly due date this semester.

Fall 2016 Best Practice -Final Exam Newsletter and Practice Final Exam

I created a smore newsletter which covers everything a student might need to know for the upcoming final exam in my course. I posted this in my classroom bulletin board and also emailed to stakeholders.

During Spring semester, I also created a mini version (10 questions) final exam which was developed in the same format as the final exam in the course. This helped students to see the expectations of the final exam. My students performed well on the final overall.

October 2015 Best Practice - Discussion Posts of the Week

This semester I wanted to share with students the great work being posted in the Discussion board. I selected outstanding student posts and created an eye-catching news item. This modeled for students no only what we were discussing in our course but also best practices for quality discussions. Additionally I hoped the "Discussion Posts of the Week" would provide an opportunity for student praise and help create classroom community.

November 2015 Best Practice - Final Exam Review Discussion Board

Beginning in November, I started communicating expectations about the course final exam. In addition to creating news items, emails, and review activities at class chats; I created a Final Exam Review Discussion Board to post sample final questions, study resources and general information. Students were also invited to share resources.
