HALO HIGHLIGHT
FACULTY RETREAT BRINGS HOPE
Saints Faculty & Staff began the week of preparation for school starting with a retreat at the beautiful Camp Karol. It was a great space to take some time to reflect and prepare mentally and spiritually. We had several wonderful speakers: our own Blaine Wyninger and his wife Denise, Fr. Villarreal, and our visiting keynote speaker Dr. Mario Sacasa. We heard uplifting and practical talks about hope, grace in the home, and of course, Dolly Parton (with a very strong emphasis on our theme “Come Home” and open dialogue about the year). Our teachers had great things to say about the day, and we are looking forward to seeing all our students again.
Here's what a few of our Saints Faculty Members had to say about the retreat:
“Camp Karol capitalizes on the beauty of seclusiveness, surrounded by a serene forest backdrop. We were provided with a brief period in our chaotic world to enjoy peace and quiet. What might have made the most impact was the honest discussion we had about how to find hope with Dr. Mario. This year more than ever we need hope and to be a person who instills hope in our students.” - Caleb Monroe
“Our retreat was such a profound time to reflect upon the noun, Hope. With this school year approaching, our retreat at Camp Karol was a true vision of “Coming Home” along with feeling hopeful for our Saints." - Julie Hebert '97
"The retreat was a beautiful opportunity for me to reflect on how our lives have been impacted by this pandemic. One part of the retreat focused on hope. False hope is just wishing things to go our way. Real hope anchors our expectations in our faith. I also realized that there are things from quarantine that I never want to go away. Mr. & Mrs. Wyninger reminded me that I do need to build a fence around family time and say no more often to things that would impede on that fence. It was a wonderful day that fed my soul!" - Monica Broussard

This week our SLCHS teachers have been hard at work learning about and practicing protocols for reopening the school. One of our resources for information is the Louisiana Department of Education’s Strong Start 2020 publication.

SCHEDULING UPDATES
We know you are all anxiously awaiting the release of student schedules for this year.
- We anticipate releasing student schedules by opening FACTS Family Access next week.
- At that time, parents or students may email the counselors to let them know of a missing required course or a duplicate one.
- We will accept student schedule change requests via an online form after school on August 27th
- Class size restrictions and other COVID protocols make the opportunity to change classes very slim.
- Our number one priority is to ensure that each of our students has the right classes to meet graduation guidelines for a TOPS University Diploma.
- If an elective class chosen won’t fit into a schedule, we are substituting with the student’s alternate elective choice.
- Counselors are contacting students with scheduling conflicts and helping to make informed decisions.
- We want everyone to get what they need and what they want to the greatest extent possible.
- Senior off periods are scheduled at the beginning or end of the day for most students. For others, scheduling conflicts resulted in an off period during the school day. Only extenuating circumstances for changing an off period will be considered.
