Principals' Corner

Dear East Knox Families,

May is always a bittersweet time of the year. It's a bitter time because it is hard to say goodbye to our wonderful Fifth Grade class that we have had for 6 and in some cases 7 years (if we had them in Pre-K). We are looking forward to celebrating our 5th graders on May 22nd. It's also a sweet time of year because summer holidays are right around the corner and I know that we are all looking forward to a break. As the year winds down, be sure to encourage your child to finish the year strong by continuing to do their important job of learning and by being at school every day that they are not sick.

We have been focusing on improving our attendance rate this year. Please remember that attendance counts on the last half-day of school on May 23rd. We are planning a Half-Day of Holiday Fun that will include a dance party, our attendance party, and teacher field day (which is always hilarious) in the gym. Be sure to come to school on the last day before we are out for the summer.

Remember that we are Cougars who Care about each other, Always problem solve, Read and respond, and Engage in learning. Be sure to read 20 minutes every night.

East Knox County Elementary School is 40 Years Old

On Friday, May 3rd, we celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the opening of our wonderful school. Several former administrators and staff members came to celebrate with us and spoke during the evening. Former chorus students performed and we enjoyed a wonderful slide show of past memories created by Mr. Simpson. If you would like to learn more about our school history, be sure to play the East Knox School History Trivia game. To play, go to this website: https://quizizz.com/join/ and enter this code: 609194. The game will be open until May 22nd.

Knox County Public Library's Summer Reading Program

Would you like your child to keep reading over the summer? We all know how important reading 20 minutes a day is for all of us and the Knox County Library has a great program called The Children's Festival of Reading. See the flyer below for more information on the rewards you can earn. The goal this summer is to read 250,000 hours ... which is the number of miles to the moon. If you participate, you will be reading "to the moon". Be sure to take the challenge and continue reading 20 minutes everyday.

Walk-A-Thon Update from our Physical Education Teachers

Our students raised $ 1,193.24 during our Walk-A-Thon. We will be purchasing the special mat to go under the monkey bars. Thank you to our school family for helping us raise the money. The top fundraiser was Brooklyn Smith in First Grade and she earned the $50 top prize. Our second place fundraiser was Matthew Fleeman in Pre-K who earned the $25 prize. Again, we really are thankful to all of our families for the help. Mrs. Majors and Mrs. Shipman

Best Cafeteria Behavior of the Week

Congratulations to the following homerooms that have won “Best Cafeteria Behavior” as a class for the week. These classes receive 5 extra minutes of recess on Fridays as a token of appreciation from our staff for being safe, responsible, and respectful. Thank you to each one of these classes for being Cougars who CARE about being safe, respectful, and responsible at lunch.
