Math Matters with Mrs. Salinas
KG is hard at work learning all about shapes. Coming up, describing the position of an object compared to another. Here are some positions you can work on at home with your child: above, below, next to, beside to, in front of, and behind.
1st grade is wrapping up place value. Students have been learning to work with tens and ones, how to use a hundred chart, make tens, and using strategies like counting on.
2nd grade is still working with adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers with or without regrouping. Those zeros can be tricky, especially when students must subtract. Our Bobcats have what it takes!
3rd grade students have been working with fractions, learning to compare fractions to whole numbers, and finding equivalent fractions. Ask your third grader what a fraction greater than 1 looks like, the difference between a numerator and denominator… Help them share their knowledge with you.
4th grade students have been extending their knowledge of place value and fractions to compare decimals (tenths and hundredths). This week, students will be applying their geometric knowledge to determine the size of an angel, as well as determine the differences between a ray and line segment.
5th grade students are working with decimals, how to multiply and divide with decimals. Students will receive a spring break math packet to work on at home. Quarter 3 Benchmark Test is around the corner. Ask your 5th grader where our Bobcats ranked in Quarter 2. That’s right! Our 5th graders were ranked 4th in the entire district! Let’s help our Bobcats rank #1. You got this, 5th grade!
Attention Mathletes: Don’t forget what days you are meeting with Mrs. Manning.
Tuesday: 3rd grade
Wednesday: 4th grade
Thursday: 5th grade

Safety Corner with Deputy Woods
In this week’s safety corner, I want to discuss Eden Parks Safe School check-out procedures. Those of you that have checked out your child or visited Eden Park Elementary, you have noticed that you are required to show your identification at the front door. The reason for this is simple…..Safety. In case of an emergency, Eden Park Elementary Administration have to account for everyone on campus.
Eden Park Elementary staff will request your identification to log who visits the building and also verify that you are on the contact/pick-up list for the student you are checking out. If you are not on a student’s pick-up/contact list you will not be allowed to pick up that student from the school. On many occasions this has caused some frustration from people trying to pick-up a student, however, our job at Eden Park is to keep your child safe.
With this in mind please make sure to contact the school and update your emergency contact information. Countless times the staff at Eden Park have attempted to contact parents/guardians of a student only to find out that the contact number and/or name is incorrect or no longer authorized to pick-up a student. If anything changes need to be made they can be made either in person or by the FOCUS Parent Portal Online https://origin.collierschools.com/app/Portal.
Some changes cannot be made such as:
1. Change of address. This requires three documents containing your new address and must be done in person.
2. Child custody changes. Fathers/Mothers cannot be removed from pickup list without court documents signed by a judge or magistrate.
Please remember that if you send someone to pick up your child, they must be on the contact/pick-up list or they will not be able to pick them up. Adults who come to school requesting to pick up a child and are not on the contact list will be denied and school staff will request that someone from the contact list come to the school to check them out.
Also please be aware that dismissal changes cannot be honored after 2:15pm. Any request for dismissal changes after 2:15pm will be denied and the student will be dismissed in the normal manner. If your student is a car rider for dismissal, please make sure that you have a car tag which will be needed to pick-up your student.
For any questions please contact Eden Park Elementary.
Thank You,
Deputy J.Woods

Attendance Matters
CONGRATULATIONS to our Kindergarteners who won the Highest Average Daily Attendance award for two weeks in a row! Their attendance has been fantastic. 95.14% for the week of 2/21-2/25.
Our Most Improved Attendance Award goes to our 3rd Grade. Their average increased from 93% to 94% in one week. Way to go 3rd grade!
We continue to monitor our school-wide attendance. We did have a decrease from 94% to 93%, but we know that will jump right back up! Thank you all for adhering to our attendance expectations. Over 7 million (1 in7) students miss nearly a month of school each year. Let's avoid that statistic. We LOVE to see our Bobcats everyday.
See you by 7:45 am each and every day.
Living with Leader In Me
Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood means that it is better to listen first and talk second. By taking the time to listen to another person, you reach a higher level of communication. Teaching Habit 5 to young children is done by first considering their age and development. Young children find it difficult to understand another’s paradigm (point of view). This habit is best approached by introducing listening as a skill that should be practiced. Learning to listen without interrupting and learning to listen with your ears, your eyes, and your heart will help children build a foundation for Habit 5. Simply put, we have two ears and one mouth so that we can spend more time listening with the intent to understand.
At Home Activities:
1. To better understand how listening can help or hurt a relationship, try “pretend listening” with your child for a few minutes. Your child will be frustrated. Explain what you were doing and discuss how your child felt. Now have your child ignore you when you are talking. Discuss how it makes you feel when you are ignored. Finish the discussion by thinking of ways to let the other person know when you feel you are not being truly listened to. Remind your child that this is also an example of Think Win-Win.
2. Body language can be even more important than words. Play a game with your kids where you each try to guess the other’s emotion (happy, sad, angry, frustrated, bored, etc.) without using any words, just body language.
3. Demonstrate how saying the same phrase in a different tone of voice can give the phrase a completely different meaning. Try emphasizing different words in the phrase “I didn’t say you did it” and then have your child tell you how the meaning changed.
