Smith Family Newsletter
We believe in the power of school and family partnerships.
Message from Ms. Rivera
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! We are so excited to visit with our returning students and to meet our new students and their families. Smith Elementary is a special place full of love, support, and high expectations for everyone, and I cannot wait to get this school year started.
My name is Dion Rivera, and this is my fifth year as principal of Smith Elementary. I began teaching here in 2012, and this will be my 16th year in education. I grew up in Magnolia, graduating from Magnolia High School in 1999. My goal is to do whatever I can to serve our staff, students, and families in order to create a better community for everyone. I believe that parents are the most important factor in a child's success, and our teachers will partner with you to ensure all of our students learn at high levels.
Please reach out to me if you have any questions or feedback at drivera@magnoliaisd.org, visit our website, and follow us on Twitter @CedricSmithElem. See you soon!
Meet the Teacher Night
Meet the Teacher Night will be on August 9th from 4:00 to 6:00. This is where your family can take a tour of the school and meet the teacher.
Here's how it works - You will enter the front or back door and navigate to your child's hall. The walker door will also be open. We will have signs and helpers for you.
When you get to the grade-level hallway, a staff member will tell you who your child's teacher will be, and then you will walk down to his or her room. You can drop off any school supplies, explore the class, and meet the teacher.
The teacher will not have an opportunity to have a long conversation with everyone, but you will be able to sign up for a conference while you are here. If you pre-ordered school supplies, they will be delivered to the class before school begins. We have a few extras, but I cannot guarantee that you will get a pack, but the list is on our school website.
I hope you can join us!
First Day and School Visitors
School visitors are welcome to visit at lunch time. All visitors must have their driver licenses scanned. If you eat lunch with your child, the visitor's section will be at our outdoor eating area, so lunch visitors can only come when the weather is clear.
The classroom halls are the instructional areas, and that is only for students and staff members so that everyone can stay focused on learning and stay safe. Volunteers can make arrangements with teachers and campus administration.
