Bulldogs in the Oceanic Wild
Students from Marine Conservation Club, Animal Awareness Club, and Environmental Club joined together on an exciting field trip to the Marine Lab in Key Largo. The outdoor excursion took our students on a boat adventure into the ocean to observe marine species at an invertebrate lab. Coordinated by the club advisors, this excursion gave our students the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have learned about the environments in which aquatic animals live, and to observe their interactions with each other in real life. After an amazing lunch, the students enjoyed a snorkeling adventure in Black Water Sound where they observed many aquatic species in their natural habitat.

Teacher Spotlight: Señora Hernandez
Riviera's faculty is one of its most prestigious assets. Two years ago, it gained a special member, Señora Hernandez. She is a beloved Spanish teacher in our world languages department. She is a well-rounded teacher with 47 years of teaching experience. Señora Hernandez’s inspiration to begin teaching came from her desire to share her culture and language with others. She studied both in Cuba, at La Universidad de La Habana, and in the United States, at Miami's own Florida International University. Señora Hernandez loves to teach because of the rewarding feeling she gets when she sees her students excelling in her class. When asked about her favorite memory since becoming a teacher, she expressed that "there are way too many beautiful memories to only choose one." Señora Hernandez's effort combined with her passion for the Spanish language and overwhelming love for her students is what makes her the outstanding educator that she is to all her students.
In the Art Studio: Introducing NAHS
The commencement of the 2021 school year led to the first ever National Art Honor Society induction. This society is composed of six amazing artists that currently take honors and AP art classes with Ms. Parker. In this society, there are a variety of projects the members have to complete before the end of the school year. The first project deals with a family owned boutique in Sunset Place that is called “Isabel’s." The owner is allowing the students to come up with a piece which then is going to be displayed in her shop and potentially bought by one of her customers. The artists are so excited to be challenged to not only create the artwork for the exhibit, but also to market and sell their artwork as well!
Keep an eye out for their artwork which will be hung in the school lobby throughout the month of January!

Keeping up with Riv Sports
Fall sports such as cross country, golf, swimming, and volleyball have come to an end. The cross country team traveled to Tallahassee on Thursday to compete in States to top off their record setting season. Our girls varsity volleyball put up a tough fight in the regional semifinals against Westminster Christian, and our varsity swimmers went out to defend themselves at their first ever state meet. Our winter sports have officially kicked off, and the girls varsity soccer team just had their first game against Coral Shores at home. Despite the loss, the girls fought hard and will try to bring home the win after their game against Divine Savior. The boys varsity soccer team is also starting their season with a game against Terra Environmental. Basketball for girls and boys at all levels has begun as well, and we are extremely excited to see them soar as they compete this season. We wish our fellow Bulldogs good luck in their upcoming games and that they have a successful season.
