Together We Can!
Over the past week, the Walsh staff has worked tirelessly to assist in creating an academic calendar for all students. During this process, they have collaborated with teachers from Cameron and Fuller in all academic and related arts. The district will be posting this calendar for all three middle schools by Monday morning. It will be located on the district and Walsh pages. Students are also encouraged to reach out to their teachers directly for additional guidance, support, and understanding. Most of our teachers have robust Canvas or Summit pages that students may be directed to by the teacher.
In addition to the calendar that will be out soon, students can also continue to use the provided enrichment activities above.
Teachers and support staff have and will continue to reach out to all students during these weeks we are away from Walsh. There will be a school directory posted by Monday with faculty email addresses and links to the Canvas and Summit pages. If you need anything please do not hesitate to reach out to any staff member that you believe can help you.
If you need a Chromebook for your student please email me or if the student is in elementary school please send that request to their principal.
We hope that your family is well and please remember if there is anything you need please reach out to any Walsh staff member.
For Our Students
Hello everyone,
Until now the work you have been provided was an enrichment type of activity. Starting Monday you will have school work in each of your subjects posted to an academic calendar. This calendar will be on the Walsh webpage as well as some of your Canvas or Summit pages. If you cannot find it, please email one of your teachers directly.
I know that many of you will have difficulty completing all of the work provided. Do the best you can, but do not stress over it if one day it all doesn't get done. I know that you may be watching your siblings, sharing Chromebooks, or do not have one yet. The goal is 3 hours a day. Your teachers will also be having "office hours" in which you can log in to Canvas or Summit or email to get help. If you are unable to reach them during these times simply email them. They will get back to you.
The goal of this remote learning is to increase your understanding of particular topics, get help if something doesn't make sense, or to go deeper into a topic.
I can not stress this enough, you have a very important part of getting life back to normal. Unlike other days we do not have school this is not the time to meet with friends at each other's homes or at the park. Why? The virus can spread quickly between individuals and can make others sick. By doing your part you can help stop the spread. When your parents say 'no' you cannot go over to your friend's house or to the park they are not being 'mean'. They are looking out for your safety and the safety of others.
This is not about 'Me' it's about 'We'! DO your part.
Respect - Listen to the adults
Ownership - Stay 6 feet away from others.
Acceptance - Understand that everyone is under stress and may need some quiet time
Responsibility - Help at home
At Walsh, we have always talked about taking ownership of your learning. Now more than ever that is important. It is easy to fall into staying up late, getting up late, hanging around or playing video games. Here are a few suggestions to break that pattern and continue with your learning.
- Wake up close to your usual time you would for school
- Help with any chores around the house
- Log into Canvas or Summit and review what you were working on before left school
- Work on something in there for 30 minutes
- Take a break
- Log into and work on IXL or i-Ready 15 minutes
- Email your teachers with things you are struggling with
- Read for 30 minutes a day
- Practice your instrument
- Draw or do some crafts
- Help out with anything that needs to be done around the house
- Be patient with your siblings and with adults
If you need to reach out to a teacher, guidance counselor, Ms. Herrman, Mr. Bergeron, or myself please feel free to email any of us.
