Academic Spotlight: Kyler Buckner
Academic and Extra-curricular Accomplishments:
Kyler Buckner is currently ranked #13 in Cabot’s senior class of 2018 and is predicted to graduate with high honors. Kyler has a 34 on his ACT, and has perfect scores on the AP US History and AP World History exams. He has been commended as an AP Scholar, recognized as an Academic All-American by the National Speech and Debate Association, and received the Spirit of Arkansas Award from the Arkansas Communication and Theatre Arts Association for his work in altering regulations that prohibited freshmen from competing at the Arkansas State Forensics and Debate Tournament. He is the Captain of Varsity Policy Debate team at Cabot. As Juniors, Kyler and his partner were one of the only 76 policy debate teams in the country to qualify to the Tournament of Champions, held at Kentucky University. This year, Kyler and his partner are ranked the 27th team in the nation for their success at various tournaments. Kyler is a charter member of Femi-Stem, an active participant in National Honors Society and Ecology Club. He is also the nonfiction editor for Cabot’s Literary Magazine, Liminality.
Community:
This past summer, Kyler spent over 150 hours interning for the Downtown Little Rock Partnership, a nonprofit urban planning group committed to revitalizing Downtown Little Rock through economic and community growth. During his time there, he developed a matrix that highlighted infrastructure in need of renovation and developed a streamlined system to analyze the partnership’s community ambassador program. Kyler also spends a large amount of time after school coaching novice and junior-varsity debaters by judging practice rounds, providing critique, and reworking rebuttal speeches. He also offers his free time on school breaks at the Lunchbox Connection, which allows people to get free lunches when school is out of session.
College/Military Plans:
After high school, Kyler plans on attending either the Donaghey Program at University of Arkansas at Little Rock, the honors college at George Mason University, or the Hutton Honors College and Indiana University. He intends to major in Public Policy and Law, Political Sciences, or Communication, depending on the school he attends. He wants to either attend law school and become a civil rights lawyer, or become a Professor.

CHS Check Out Policy
CHS students will be allowed to check out with a parent/guardian note only. A parent/guardian phone number will need to be included on the checkout note for verification purposes.
***No phone call checkouts will be allowed because of safety concerns.
CHS is a closed campus and we strongly discourage students from checking out at lunch. This typically causes unnecessary tardies and classroom interruptions. If a student is checking out at lunch, a parent/guardian must physically come in and sign the student out and them back in from lunch.
Only a parent/guardian is allowed to drop lunch off for a student. If a parent/guardian is dropping off lunch for a student, there will be a table (outside the office) with a sharpie for the students name to be written on it. Students should know in advance that lunch is being dropped off to them.
