Rejection of Treaty of Versailles

The treaty of Versailles was a formal peace treaty between the World War I Allies and Germany. Was a met in Paris in 1919 to make the treaty. On March 19, 1920, the United States Senate rejected for the second time the Treaty of Versailles, by a vote of 49-35, falling seven votes short of a two-thirds majority needed for approval.

the Treaty of Versailles was a good thing but at the same time it wasnt once the U.S did not participate of the Leage of Nation.

selective service

the Selective service was the first peacetime conscription in U.S history.
This Selective Service Act required that men between the ages of 21 and 35 register with local draft boards. Later, when the U.S. entered WW2, all men that was between the ages 18 to 45 were made subject to military service, and all men aged 18 to 65 were required to register.

That was a good thing to united states, cause this way the people could fight for your country and honor, and almost all the time they do that, cause they love your country and they are so pround of it!

Zimmermann Telegrama

The Zimmermann Telegram was a coded telegram that the Foreign Minister of the German Empire, Arthur Zimmermann, on January 16, 1917, sent to the German ambassador in Mexico, Heinrich von Eckardt, at the high point of World War II.

The telegram instructing the ambassador to approach the Mexican government with a proposal to form a military alliance against the United States. The proposal promised land to Mexico from the United States if the country accepted the agreement. The telegram was Intercepted and decoded by British and that contented made the US entry into World War II.

The was in a new technology and was not a important discover to U.S because with this telegramm that was coded the U.S could prevent about the mexico and German.

The Sinkinf of Lusitana

On May 7, 1915, a German U-boat operating off the coast of Ireland fired a torpedo into Lusitania, causing the massive ocean liner to list precariously. The attack, part of Germany’s campaign of unrestricted submarine warfare, killed 1,198 passengers and the people that were working at the boat, including 128 Americans. Contrary to popular belief, this didnt directly precipitate U.S. involvement in World War I.

THe Roosevelt Corollary To monroe Doctrine.

The Roosevelt Corollary was an addition to the Monroe Doctrine. It stated on European countries were allowed to intervene in Latin American affairs. The only way that the U.S was allowed to become involved was if the affairs or European countries was threatened.
The United States could exercise police power in Latin America. The United States was the only country allowed to interfere with Latin American countries.

Panama Canal

In the late of 19th century the technological advances and commercial pressure advanced to the point where construction started in earnest. attempt by France to build a sea-level canal failed, but only after a great amount of excavation was carried out. This was of use to the United States, which completed the present panama canal in 1913 and officially opened it in 1914. Along the way, the state of panama was created through its separation from colombia in 1903, due to a US backed revolt, so the US could then get control of the Canal project area.

The panama Canal could opened a lot advantanges to the U.S. and British to ship goods quickly and cheaply between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

By extension, the term yellow journalism is used today as a pejorative to decry any journalism that treats news in an unprofessional or unethical fashion.

Amendment XVII

The Amendment XVII to the U.S constution established the popular election of U.S Senators by the people of the states. The amendment supersedes under which senators were elected by the state legislatures

First Direct Elections to the senate

Oklahome, admitted to statehood in 1907, chose a Senator by legislative election three times: twice in 1907, when admitted, and once in 1908. In 1912, Oklahoma reelected Robert Owen by advisory popular vote.

TheAmendment XVIII was effectively established to the prohibition of alcoholic beverages in U.S by declaring the production, transport, and sale of alcohol (though not the consumption or private possession) illegal.

Section 1. After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all the territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for beverage purposes is hereby prohibited.

Section 2. The Congress and the several States shall have concurrent power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Section 3. This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of the several States, as provided in the Constitution, within seven years from the date of the submission hereof to the States by the Congress.

The Amendment XIX prohibits any United States citizen from being denied the right to vote on the basis of sex. It started valied on August 18, 1920. The Constitution allows the states to determine the qualifications of voters, subject to limitations imposed by later amendments. The womens was fighting for a long time for the igual rights, SO this amendment was a victory for them, the suffrage wins!

This amendment was a big step to the society in u.s, this makes everybody igual in front of the govenment.
