Spring Concert

The spring concert is set for Thursday, June 4th at 7pm. Students will be asked to arrive no earlier than 6 and no later than 6:30. Concert attire will be a nice, colorful top, and black pants with black shoes.

Summer Music at the Augusta

Meriden's new Summer Music program is in it's third year! Students can sign up to take Band, Orchestra, or Chorus for two weeks in July (6-17), taught by local music teachers (including yours truly). The program is held at the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center in Meriden, and is open to all students entering 5th-9th grade. Full and Half day options are available, and scholarships can be applied for. The final concert will be held on the evening of July 17th at Washington Middle School. Please contact Mrs. Otto for more information!

Hartford Symphony Orchestra

Our field study will take place on Wednesday, May 20th. Students will attend their first class that day, and probably the last two classes as well. Lunches should be brought from home, unless a school lunch order form was returned. Chaperones should arrive by 9am, and meet Mrs. Otto in room C012.

Spring Coffee House

Twice a year our Chamber Orchestra hosts a "Coffee House" fundraiser, where we perform music that the students have been working on while holding a bake sale. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, lemonade, and a wide variety of baked goods will be available for purchase. Please consider spending the afternoon with us!

The Spring Coffee House will take place on Saturday, June 13th, from 1:00-2:00pm in the TEMS cafeteria.

More information to follow!

Music Department T-Shirt Fundraiser

Our first ever T-shirt fundraiser was a huge success! We raised over $445 to put towards the renting of buses for our upcoming field trips. Thank you so much for your support!

(Many people have contacted me for additional shirts... I can put in one final "extra" order, but it must be done by the end of this week!! If you need a shirt, please contact me ASAP with the size you would like. I will be purchasing these myself, so payment can be sent as cash or check made out to Lauren Otto.)

Trills and Thrills Music Festival

We will be participating again this year with the Jazz Band and Chamber Orchestra (after-school groups), including spending the afternoon at Lake Compounce! The Festival that we are participating in is on Friday, May 22nd. Students will miss all of their classes on this day. Students will be transported to AND from the park, but must be met by an adult in the TEMS parking lot. Buses will NOT take students to their houses.

Permission slips and payment were due before break. Please contact Mrs. Otto for another copy of this permission slip ASAP. Tickets have not yet been ordered, due to the number of students who have yet to return their forms. If you are not sure whether your child owes a permission slip, please contact me!!

TEMS Marching Band

We will be performing in the Meriden Memorial Day Parade again this year. More information for the day of the event will be available as soon as I hear from the event organizer. The parade is on Monday, May 25th.

Rehearsals have already started. We meet on Tuesdays from 3:00-3:45pm. We will not need to add rehearsals on Thursdays in May.

Rock Cats Performance

The TEMS musicians will once again be performing at Rock Cats Stadium in New Britain this June! We are scheduled to perform on Thursday, June 18th, at approximately 5:55pm. We are set to play "The Star Spangled Banner", as well as Bruno Mars' hit song "Dynamite"! Students will be transported from TEMS to the stadium, but must be met by an adult for the remainder of the game. There will be NO transportation after the game.

Rehearsals have already started. We will meet again on Friday May 8th and Friday June 5th from 3:00-3:45pm. We will meet during Academy Time starting on June 8th, and every day until the performance.

Music Parents Association

If you are interested in meeting and/or discussing fundraising ideas, please contact Mrs. Otto (LOtto@aces.org). We will try to meet on the same evening as FAP, for convenience. The May meeting is set for Wednesday, May 6th, from 5:30-6:00pm. We meet in Mrs. Otto's classroom, C012.

The MPA will be selling concessions and raffle tickets during the Spring Concert. If you would like to help at either of these tables please let Mrs. Otto know. We will also be looking for donations from local businesses for the raffle. A form letter can be made available for anyone who might have a business in mind to ask.
